Oh yeah it appears as a side thing in tons of anime, they (animators) tend to like pairing up cute little girls with gruff badasses the size of bears. El Cazadore de la Bruja stands out in my mind in particular for that.

Which would have nothing at all to do with NGE being one of the most influential anime series ever.
