I really hope so.

Watched Pot:

--- Quote from: Carl-E on 17 Jan 2011, 14:57 ---Remember, being big and popular does not  make you a good school.  It can, however, make you a bully.  And emblematic of that is paying an octogenarian who should've retired 20 years ago over a million dollars a year for doing next to nothing - his coaching staff does all the work.

**Disclaimer** Off topic, but i hardly ever post anyway so what the heck... I have a positive PSU bias because my mother worked a very low-level job for them, but it was enough to get both my brothers and I the 75% staff tuition discount...effectively 12 years of classes for the price of 3. That said, find one single credible source (someone with a believable claim to inside knowledge of the athletic program) who agrees that Joe does "next to nothing". Not everyone involved in the program likes him. Several people, student athletes as well as staff, have left or transferred on less than ideal terms, yet among all their criticisms, explicit and veiled, no one has ever said Joe doesn't do the work of a college head coach. Many of the current staff (Tom Bradley?) would significantly benefit from forcing his retirement, but no one has made any attempt whatsoever since they started winning again after the 2000-2004 slump. If you worked for Penn State, maybe you know something I don't, but every argument I've heard in favor of his retirement always boils down to "LOL, he is teh old, LOL".

I only loathe JoePa because he is the one and only reason why the Big Ten decided to expand all those years ago. Of course, some would say that without that expansion, the Big Ten never would have agreed to the whole BCS crap, so there might be a whole other level of loathing to add on to all that regular loathing.

And we don't even need to go into the whole thing about the "interstate" that connects SC with that exotic locale of Altoona.

Anyways - I do fully expect that Hannelore will jump in here to diffuse the awkwardness. She does (I would hope) remember what Marten babbled to Steve way back when after "The Talk"; I don't think she's going to Hulk Out, but I do think she will help them remember their common ground.

Is it cold in here?:

--- Quote from: Is it cold in here? on 17 Jan 2011, 09:18 ---Marten's drunk comments and actions could be taken as hostile. We don't know what he did, but Faye certainly wasn't playful about punching him.

Is that in response to me? I certainly agree with your point, but you have to admit, it didn't break the trend of his reactions to her. That's an important point. Until today's strip, he has never varied in his assessment of her as a potential girlfriend. Even when he was with Dora, he never said "Well, thank God I dodged that bullet."

If I've missed your point, please elaborate. :)

NB: I have edited my post, since it appears that I didn't quote the points I was responding to correctly. Please re-read my post above to see if that clarifies what I was trying to say.

Well, somebody else had cited it as evidence that Marten was still interested in the Pugnacious Peach, which *is* possible, but on that occasion he had gone beyond Crude Pass into Insulting And Possibly Dangerous.
