Dead Space 2: That Thing Was Pissed
Blyss:
Aside from the fact that EA has terrible taste in marketing their products - Dead Space looks to be the replacement to Resident Evil that I looked for for soooo long.
And that hand cannon, awesome.

okay, i'm only an hour in and like i was worried this game wouldn't be able to nail the atmosphere right, BUT
1) having a massively populated station where you start out as the outbreak begins is like, as soon as you start encountering more people it gets absolutely bonkers
2) there's a scene in the apartments where a woman's like "I'M NOT LEAVING MY MOTHER" and then shortly after that you walk to where she was and while your objective thing tells you "go this way" you can turn around and see that she was shouting towards an open door and that's why my screen is currently paused is Do I Want To Go In There
Melodic:
Just finished my first play-through tonight. Visceral doesn't have an incredibly tight track record, but Dead Space 2 emphasizes all of the same aspects that Valve prides themselves in. The game's pacing is absolutely flawless, and except for small sections I felt like the tension was always red-lined (either meticulously slow, deliberate, paranoid corridor-crawling or crazy, frenetic sequences of doing crazy insane shit and surviving somehow). The amount of care that's been put into the atmosphere of Dead Space is also to be commended -- huge, sprawling set-pieces, perfect attention to lighting and gravity sequences... it all astounded me.
Honestly, the entire experience oozed Half-Life to me. Phenomenal pacing, amazing environments and flawless gameplay. Wow.

Now all they need to do is create a story that isn't forgettable and maybe making there be more banter between characters as opposed to simply exposition. But considered how much better those elements were in this version as opposed to the original, I think we can definitely look forward to the sequel being better still.
Related: Some guy on Kotaku wrote an article about how awesome New Game+ is and I cannot agree more. I loved in this game how I was able to totally max out my rig and stasis and one weapon fully during my entire first playthrough. It makes me want to replay it so that I can play with some more maxed out weapons. I also know it's going to make the tougher difficulties less frustrating.
Felrender:
The fully-upgraded Plasma Cutter is a monster.
