. I prefer Star Trek TOS and Star Wars IV. [Is my GOM showing?]

If your GOM was truly showing you'd have referred to them as "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" - only them young whippersnappers need to differentiate with that new stuff.

I used that form as a favor to the kiddies. My son turns 21 in a few months and we had to come up with a way of differntiating the versions. ANH TESB ROTJ TPM AOTC ROTS got clumsy. Besides, he ususally put 'em in cronological order.
My bad habit of always saying precisly what I mean.
Carl-E:
A real GOM differentiates with an icy stare when someone asks which version he means.
Then there's a few moments (anywhere from 10 sec to 2 min) of grumbling about riding on coattails and so on.
Besides, all the other Star Treks have monikers. If you just say, "Star Trek", it must be the original.
And IV was tacked onto Star Wars when Episode 1 was retconned. Clearly, if you just say "Star Wars", it's the movie with that name which we all saw in theatres and drive-ins back in '77!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it was Always "Episode IV: A New Hope" Mr. Lucas wanted to drop us right in the middle of an ongoing story. The ultimate in suspension of disbelief. No filmmaker in the late 1970's would completely skip opening credits and open the film with a quick re-hash of stuff that was never presented and semi-spectacular space battle. Then it was ground-breaking. Now cliche'.
I sat through 7 screening of that film back in '77 (paid for 4) while my best friend and I taped the soundtrack. Video equipment was too bulky and expensive then. But I remember at a Star Trek con the following January in NYC somebody was showing off his VHS tape of the film.
