--- Quote from: axerton on 21 Mar 2011, 17:42 ---So, is it just your life being randomised? so for instance if you did say "my parents" it wouldn't alter anything about their life?
Also is it truly random or is the wizard a dick who will try and find a way to twist any situation to be bad for you.
--- End quote ---
It'd mean that your parents would be the same people they have been, but it wouldn't guarantee that they'd make the same decisions about you all over again this time around. Also, things that affect your life directly, like whether or not you have elder siblings, and the status of the other members of your extended family would be in play.
--- End quote ---
In that case, I think I would choose to keep my current relationship with my girlfriend.
Not in a "shes the most important thing in my life right now" way, but more the fact that it puts some serious limiters on who I would end up being. In order to even know her I would still have to be in a fairly good location, and to be considered date worthy by her I'd have to be reasonably intelligent and I couldn't be too big of a jackass or a loser.
As far as I can tell that doesn't leave too much wiggle room for the wizard to dick with me.
calenlass:
I don't know if "the education I got" is too much to ask for, but I would like to keep that, or something like it ("access to similar education", etc). It definitely affected my perspectives and opened up a whole facet of learning stuff I have come to realise most people don't understand at all. I would regret losing that a lot, I think.
So assuming I am still born genetically and chemically me, I guess I would take the education thing. I have managed to bully my way into being sort of ok with my life, and I'd like to think I would do it under other circumstances too, but I might not have had the self-assuredness or the confidence to do it.
est:
Being born genetically and chemically you cannot be assumed. You could be a chinese dude, or an english lady, or a juggalo or whatever.
calenlass:
Well, shit, then. "Happiness" becomes the only feasible answer, I think, because absolutely anything else becomes completely arbitrary. Sure, you might keep your camera because you think it predisposes you to a place where you could own one, but maybe you nicked it off some hapless tourist, and someone else in the ghetto will see you with it and shiv you for it. You might get a great education, but only because the horrific deaths of your family members got you workers comp to pay for it, or you might be bitter. Your new perceptions and reasoning would probably be entirely different, so you couldn't guarantee any particular capacity for knowledge or common sense or anything. Your bew preferences would likely render any other choice you make irrelevant.
So basically, the question is "Imagine what would happen if someone else magically had the memory of your life transplanted into their brain. Also, they get your cat."

I played a computer game like this once. I'll see if I can find it again.
