You guys shitted up this thread right quick.

Man, what? I would rather have some actual discussion than another fucking list thread, or another blog thread, which is like the same thing but with longer posts no one reads.

Ben, I don't understand how that is different. If you are not even genetically you AND you have lived a different life, but somehow you still have memories from your old one, and also maybe the same great butt, you would still no longer be you. I always thought that people were a sum of their genetics, circumstances, and choices, and if you have changed all three of those, they can't possibly be the same person anymore.

Anyway, I am not really sure how to outwit the wizard. I am not particularly witty, I guess. I lose and get cursed. :( I go back to Start and re-roll a new character.

serious answer (NOT A BUTT ANSWER) would probably be my university degree, i know there are situations where it wouldn't mean shit but even in the context of developing countries it's got the most universal utility of anything else i've managed to think of

Nodaisho, I didn't mean it the way you've taken it.  If I meant for us to think about anything in this thread it would be more how best to outwit the wizard who is trying to put a curse on us.  The post to TSK was meant to highlight how badly it could go if you don't care about the answer or treat it as "what is your favourite thing in the world?" instead.

I was aware of how bad it could be. I did consider my favourite things but reasoned that either they could end up meaning nothing to me (tastes and possessions), being fundamantally useless (possessions and skills) or require such bizarre wrangles of scenario that the cost to either myself ot others would be unbearable. All of the things that I briefly considered bringing with me would have rendered pointless or hurtful so favourite thing or not, so what would have been the point in taking them with me? You already said upthread that there's nothing that you could take with you would prevent you from being fucked over completely so I feel that the response that you provided me with justifies my decision.

To a certain degree I think I've outwitted the wizard by not trying at all.

You are in a cave.

There is no guitar here.

I'm going to say the production of the first episode of my music access TV show. Because from whatever random stuff the wizard throws in there, I'd still eventually intercept with the core group of people that have become very important to me in the past couple of years, and with at least a decent chance of expanding out to much of the circles surrounding it.

Isn't that just risking est dumping you in a place where it is impossible to avoid incontrovertible evidence that there is no god, leaving you in the unenviable position of having to believe in god and knowing that there isn't one.

Hmm.  How to outwit this wizard?

I mean it would be easy enough to just keep some personal history the same because that would be the only way to keep your life somewhat similar.  Trying for a better life in this scenario isn't really a possibility.  Keeping a personal attribute or skill wouldn't work since the wizard just kept Johnny's guitar playing ability and threw him in a cave.

Hmm.

I would try to bluff my way out of this situation and say that I want to keep my innate ability to turn any wizard's curse upon the one who cast it!

In this scenario I am assuming that the wizard cannot read minds or detect that I actually don't have that ability.

Since magic is real he might hesitate long enough for me to escape.

I thought the idea was that it was something you already posses? In which case, unless you already have the knowledge to outsmart any wizard you come across, you're a bit stuck.

Edit: Never mind, you already thought of that

I guess I'd choose to keep my class status as a middle class (albeit lower middle class) white male. Pretty much whatever happens within that bracket cannot be too terrible, barring some sort of disability. Of course given that this wizard doesn't seem to be choosing at random but rather is going for worst possible case scenarios. I mean I could choose to keep something else and wind up being Warren Worthington III but somehow it's more likely to be something horrible.

That game was probably Real Lives, an educational simulator that used reusable registration codes, so that when one code finally made it to the internet, everyone was able to unlock the full simulation. I remember playing as a Japanese business man who fell off a ladder one day and ended up with a permanent limp. I used this as his excuse to fall into drug addiction.

So this sounded interesting and I looked it up, but it just seems to be horribly broken for me. I've downloaded it from multiple sources (including the official website), and while the game runs just fine, all the text is just colored squares, with no way for me to understand at all what is going on. Any suggestions?
