I bought it, but the game won't launch for me :( instead it keeps trying to install xna 4 when i double click it.  There seems to be some trouble on my comp with the .net framework 4 and/or the xna 4 redistributable.  the second fails with error code 2908 when I try to install it separately from the game (per the developer's suggestion).  I found on the Steam forums someone else with the same issue, but no one's helped him out.

I've been going crazy uninstalling and reinstalling and tweaking things slightly.
I've found this site saying that .net framework 4 may install improperly and gives steps to try and fix it, but it feels a tad too in depth for my tastes with messing around with windows.

Anyone have any ideas?  I'm not used to messing with Windows.

Just wanna say that my problems have been fixed, thanks to a bit of help from Mr. PWHodges.  The game is so much fun.  I can't wait till I finish studying so I can play it more tonight.

(Also, my roommate and another friend bought it and we're gonna do some 3 person multiplayer later tonight.)

I think the requirement is 50 silver for a merchant.  Maybe you've not reached that yet?  Or, there could be something wrong with some of your houses.  I saw a let's play from a beta tester of the game where he used a wood platform for a floor of a house and it seemed to be un-live-in-able (no one moved in until he replaced the floor with wood).

Scandanavian War Machine:
No, I had the money, he just wasn't showing up for some reason.

I walked to the right for like a day and he showed up though, so it's all good. How are the throwing stars? I've been shooting flaming arrows out of a silver bow and it's pretty powerful and relatively cheap and easy to do, but throwing stars are just plain cool. Seemed a little pricey though. Do you lose them when you throw them or are they like arrows where you can usually pick them back up (but not always)?

I love this game. I seriously haven't even seen any of the cool stuff that people have been talking about either, but I've been having a blast. I haven't found any of this so-called corruption, i haven't found any skeletons, no boss monsters, no demon altars, no treasure chests; none of that.

You can recover shuriken most of the time, and I think their benefit over arrows is that they go through monsters (again, I think.  There are definitely some projectiles that go through enemies, and I think shuriken are one of them).  You don't have to buy them from the merchant, though.  You can also find them in pots.  I don't know about the ratio of damage between arrows and shuriken, though.  I believe they have one base damage value, while arrows can increase depending on bow.

Demon altars are only in corruption (which you may have to walk a long way to get to, but there is some on every map), skeletons and treasure chests are only deep underground (which may get really really deep depending on the size of your world [my roommate did a medium world and it took him over half an hour of digging to get down to skeletons and chests]), and all bosses except for one have to be summoned with a special item (or occur randomly with a very small chance of happening).

It is sort of like Minecraft in that you kind of have to read the wiki or watch let's plays in order to discover some things (like how to summon a boss).

Scandanavian War Machine:
Yeah, I'm on a medium world so I kinda figured that was the case. I finally got deep enough for the dirt wall background to change last night. Had like four slimes land on top of me and kill me in seconds as soon as I got there though.

I've got lots of caves to explore near my little town so I'm gonna keep doing that a while, just so I can save up enough for the miner helmet with the light on it.

Then i'm digging straight down
