Medieval Total War issues
« on: 06 May 2012, 14:03 »

So I decided to break out this old game and play a campaign or two.  I install it without issues, but when I go to launch, the game won't start.  I changed privileges so anyone can run the game, changed compatibility to try a few different OS's, downloaded the newest (lol) patch for it, ran a compatibility application tool on it, tried a couple of mods and user-fixes, and was about to try reverting my graphics card driver, but backed out on that.

I've gotten the game to where it begins to launch, but then crashes back to the desktop after a couple seconds.  I've read that nVidia cards cause a lot of issues with the game, and my computer has one :-(

My system is Windows Vista 64-bit, nVidia GeForce 9700M GT 512mb graphics card, dual Intel core, 4 gigs of RAM and 280 gig hard drive.

So my question is, does anyone still play this game, and if you do, do you play it on Vista, and how did you get it to work?

There is one other thing I haven't tried, and that is moving the game folder, which is currently installed on an external hard drive...but other games I have installed to that hard drive (including my Steam software) run just fine.  Hell, even Morrowind runs without issue, and that's the same age as MTW.

Edit: And to add even more salt to the wound, I got Diablo II running without having to change or modify anything, and that game is even older than MTW :psyduck:
