Obligatory E3 2011 Thread

KvP:
Essentially for about 4/5 of the game the Johnny character is a masked buffoon who is inexplicably on Snake's team and is roundly useless in combat, as he runs off clutching his bare ass trying not to shit everywhere (per the gag that runs through the MGS series - in each, there is an inept enemy who shits himself, allowing Snake to escape. The character in MGS3 is apparently the father / grandfather of the MGS4 character. This is a real thing). As the endgame approaches he removes his mask to reveal a blonde Adonis image, and it is explained that he was incompetent because his lack of nanites prevented him from properly communicating with the squad, and incontinent because he didn't get the nanite injections everyone else on the team did, thus exposing him to GI trouble as he inhales the nanites that fly through in the air in the battlefield. Thus the flatulent comic relief is overexplained (in classic MGS form) into a handsome badass, and he and Meryl fall in love.

Then they get married

This is what happens when you give one guy creative control over a series, with no editors.

*edit - bah, beaten to it

Scandanavian War Machine:
ah but your explanation is way better than mine anyway

Johnny C:
that scene was kinda cute

I like to think they're making fun of every battlefield proposal/relationship ever (thinking of the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies as a more recent example, though it applies to pretty much every action movie ever where one of the action heroes falls in love with someone).

Scandanavian War Machine:
well, considering the entire MGS series is basically Kojima's tribute to american action movies...and kurt russel...then, i don't know if he was making fun of anything with that necessarily

but he could have been! i'm not a mind reader
