That's why we hate n00bs. They ruin our carefully calculated medic play by doing stupid stuff like that and not listening to voice chat. However now there will be plenty of idiots standing around for me to get sniper kills and spy backstabs on.

Avec: do you get a decent framerate though? Because if I had that kind of thing going on and it also gave me bright models I would be totally ok with it.
On a 'maybe actually solving the problem' note - Have you tried running it in DirectX 8 mode (add "-dxlevel 81" w/o quotes to your launch options (right click on tf2 in steam > properties > set launch options)? I find that solves a lot of issues and nets you a bunch of extra fps without really costing you anything other than pretty water.
