It's quite good, one of my favorites. But you should know that the author has a tendency to go off on long tangents giving detailed explanations of the science behind various things. Whether this is a good or a bad thing really depends on your perspective.

i really liked them, but never finished the series because i couldn't make it through his explanation of microbiology as it related to the difficulty of creating a stable soil ecology on mars in the third book.

the engineering and socioeconomic theories were much more interesting.

The Mars Trilogy are pretty great epics. They manage (to me) a nice balance of hard science fiction with vast, compelling human plots. They can get pretty hard to follow though; one of those books where you really need the appendices.

Whoever said it was better than DOOM is dumb (at least from an actual entertainment standpoint).

The only real plus is that it has Robert Patrick (you know, the liquid metal terminator from T2) in it as the Mason character you played in Red Faction: Guerilla. Everything else about the movie was terrible. It wasn't even entertaining in a SyFy Original Movie kind of way.

speaking of Mars movies, they are remaking Total Recal with colin farrel as Arnie's character.

The Mars Trilogy is my absolute favourite piece of science fiction. Incredibly detailed in its scope, amazingly realistic and fully-foremd characters, intricate and compelling plots... It's fantastic.
