POINTLESS THREAD III: ESCAPE FROM RAPTOR MOUNTAIN AGAIN

<< < (938/987) > >>

pwhodges:
Are Swedes really this standoffish?

Mr. Doctor:
Naaaaah, they are not like that. Although I enjoy a joke the australian comedian Steve Hughes made about swedish:
- So where are you staying?
- I got nowhere to stay...
- Oh... Well, good luck finding somewhere to stay. If you are still here in a year perhaps I will tell you my name.

That's of course an stereotype.

PS: I know your avatars rotate all the time but before posting this you had Lain as your avatar and I wanted to say "hell yeah Serial Experiments Lain. Love it!"

LTK:
According to this, yes, but the reason for that might be that when you're standing nearby enough for the other person to be able to talk to you, you are expected to talk to them, and to avoid that everyone just stands far away enough so that won't be necessary. So you could say that Swedish customs regarding talking to strangers are actually more sociable than those in other Western countries, because we have no trouble sitting in on someone else's conversation space in silence.

Mr. Doctor:
I've never actually seen such a gap between each person though. The pic just seems ridiculous... But the explanation seems legit indeed.
