I don't think it was douchey at all. It's way anyone could have answered such questions in everyday life, like, at a party or at your job. I don't see why there's a need to treat interviewers different than anybody. "Do you ever call anyone for advice", it's just obvious the interviewer was trying to squeeze out some gossip or something.

Exactly. The interviewer was a cretin. And calling a man of 36 a kid is pretty condescending.
