Well I'd go with stoutfiles' comments here. If anything I would've guessed Marten is sad about a lost possible chance rather than about losing Padma as a person.

Define "interesting". (I didn't find her interesting but that's of course a matter of taste, I just want to ask which aspects of her you're referring to.)
