Aren't spangenhelms and chainmail a little early for renaissance? I thought they'd mostly moved on to plate by then.
 :-D

Lookin good!

Carl-E:
Chainmail never really went out of fashion...  until firearms came into common usage.

But yeah, the spangen and the viking shield & axe are a little old-school!   :-D

Not that most ren-faire consumers would really know...   :psyduck:

Jace:
And firearms were coming into more prominent usage right around the middle of the Renaissance time period, I think.

I wish I could've gone as the Viking (to ravish the wenches, of course  ), but the GA Faire doesn't allow weapons other than swords and daggers :-(

Disallowing spears/polearms and firearms I can understand (too easy to take out a lot of people with a polearm if you turn around quickly, and you can't easily tell with firearms if they're real or not...), but not allowing maces and axes as well?  Draconian... :?

I think the people who wear plate (like...real plate armor, not the plastic stuff) at ren fairs are a little crazy, mostly because I think they would be too hot to enjoy anything. Also it's all heavy and stuff, not that chainmail isn't. Though I have seen some guys make really fantastic leather armor and wear it and I am always jealous. Also one dude had a magnificent set of wood armor (he was an elf, not really renaissance, but still cool) that I pined over.

Personally, the things I'll be making for the ren fest will be more medieval, but I do not have skills to make an Elizabethan dress. This I can handle, but this is way beyond me.
