Arancaytar:
--- Quote from: Black Sword on 07 Nov 2011, 08:14 ---I may have to revise my estimation of Marten's strategic skills. If his goal is to avoid the dance floor, and his "one more drink" has the strength of a Mike Tyson punch to the face, well, it's not like he knew, right?
--- End quote ---
That drink sounds like a poor strategy to avoid any given floor (with his face).
iduguphergrave:
Not a caption, but Jeph totally sent me Marten's last line that he cut from today's last panel. He probably shouldn't have:
Marten: God, you're a c**t.
Cornan:
"...straight into a jet engine" made me laugh so loudly my girlfriend assumed I was watching MST3K. Something about that line and Faye's face and Marten's arms just made me crack up.
And yeah, count me among the "can't dance" people. Want me to kick a dude in the gut while punching in someone else's face? I'm graceful as all get out. Want me to move around a dance floor? I'm awkward two-left-feet-made-of-lead-man. One is planned and has structure and the other is free form. Anything without structure just sends my brain into panic mode and most dance (at least the kind that people do at parties and what not) is pretty free form. I'm usually the guy at parties sitting on the couch having funny conversations and not the guy flitting around the floor. I sympathize with Marten here.
However, the last time I danced at a dance I did get a lot of "oh you're so brave for trying since you obviously can't dance worth squat" from some of the ladies and it all ended up ok in the end. Here's hoping that Padma finds this more endearing than "oh wow what a spaz."
WAYF:
Sometimes, when you say "I don't know how to dance", what you really mean is "I'm too embarrassed to dance in front of all my friends because I'm afraid that they're watching and judging me".
And sometimes, when you say "I don't know how to dance", what you really mean is "I don't know how to dance."
People like Faye who encourage non-dancey people to dance should bear in mind that the second option is entirely possible. Especially in the case of someone like Marten. :P
Kugai:
Throw your hands in the air like you just don't care!
And now Marten will drink more than two Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters
Tai, play Tragedy by The Bee Gees.
