I was playing on youtube and realize I never posted this last year. Kid Beyond is a livelooping beatboxer who more or less builds a song then sings over it. The EP includes a Portishead cover and is truly astounding.

There's a deeply human sweetness to Kid Beyond's attitude, yet another aspect of his art that tends to set him apart from the hip-hop mainstream. The full-length follow-up can't come soon enough.

I've heard all the Springsteen comparisons, but I'm not one to notice them.  Mostly because I have never had the chance to listen to him.  I wouldn't know where to start, really.

You can't go wrong with Born to Run. The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle is a good starting point, too. After that, his work got a lot more brooding and serious. Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, and Nebraska are all excellent, but they're dark, dark albums.
