The M/F Thread 2009: The Quickening

I've heard that the kids these days are into what they call "ambient" music. Here's an entry from 1959:
Miles Davis - Sketches Of Spain

In which Mr. Davis takes a piece composed for classical guitar, and translates to muted trumpet, with a minimalist orchestral backing. Delicious but also high in protein. This is among the highest-quality "chill-out" music I've heard.
If Godspeed You! Black Emperor is "post-rock" than this is "pre-rock" and shares some common ancestors. Lemme know if you want more.

Worrytrain-Sparrow Happenings(????)
An old tape by Worrytrain I just discovered(I've got no idea when this was released, but the fact that it's a tape and that it shares some resemblance with some stuff on "old tapes" make me guess it was released anywhere between '02 and '04)

Agreed, but the link to disc 2 seems to be missing above (or it is actually there, and my noobishness knows no bounds).

My favorite thing out right now
Local Natives - Gorilla Manor
--- Code: ---http://www.mediaf!re.com/?2mbg4hhzlzj

--- Quote ---When people are comparing you to Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, and Vampire Weekend, big things are coming. Local Natives are a young five-piece out of Los Angeles, with Gorilla Manor being their incredible debut effort. The first thing that caught my attention was their intricate song structure, front to back with big and small transitions. Look out for the percussion throughout, especially in the opening track, “Wide Eyes”, really fun and interesting beats. Their debut is already out in the UK, but is being released in the US on February 16 courtesy of Frenchkiss. Local Natives will be touring Europe to support their album out there, but expect a North American tour once Gorilla Manor gets released in the US.

YEASAYER - ODD BLOOD
(no album art yet...)

Three listens in, and it gets better with each one. Much more synthy than "All Hour Cymbals"...darkly dancey...some moments of almost Michael Jackson influence...really digging it.
