We Are the Hunters makes me kind of sad. The songs sound great live, the D'Urbs are all really stand-up dudes, and I feel bad for saying this about local bands but this album fell a little flat for me.
I am pretty excited that people outside of Canada know who they are though!

Scale the Summit - Carving Desert Canyons
instrumental, progressive, beautiful, heavy, complex.
These young guys from Houston, Texas manage to make instrumental music that does not sound bland, uninspired, or derivative. They pack so much technical prowess and melody into their music that having a vocalist would just take away from their sound. A must for any guitar nerd (eight and seven string guitars+complex jazzy and polyrythmic passages+harmoniesharmonies+inventive tapping+absolute killer tone).

okay... so this is a near and dear post for me. i went to school, lived in and work in ypsilanti, michigan (home of the most phallic water tower in the united states):
(it's nick named the ypsi-dick). anyways, ypsi has also produced one of the most short-lived (yet super awesome) post-rock bands i've ever heard...namely the red light chamber choir. and i've decided to share it with you. it's also really really good to go to sleep to.
--- Quote ---beautiful and mesmerizing post-rock from ypsilanti, michigan. i love this album, in part because i'm really good friends with the band (which is comprised of: my current boss, some old housemates of mine, a friend from middle school, and a former server of my favorite coney island). the band released this full LP in 2007 (and went their separate ways shortly after. the most popular track (and one of my personal favorites) is titled "strangers in matching suits."
while this is the only official album, red light chamber choir recorded some songs in my basement which we have deemed "the basement ep" if you guys dig "we are in trouble but don't know what to do" i'll consider upping the ep. check it.

You are all wonderful wonderful people. I will now try sleeping for days and will most likely succeed.
Now to post something that shows my true appreciation...hmmmm
