Foxy Shazaam- Introducing Foxy!
http://www.mediafire.com/?6xysy3bi0p8

I heart this band.  They used to be pretty hardcore but now have turned a little "World Inferno Friendship Society"-like

Pluz Upload for me the Sunset Rubdown-Shut Up I Am Dreaming

Um, I know they're bass player, they're from my town.

Whoops, sorry about the double post guys. My internet has been down for a few days, and I just got kinda excited looking through everything new. Anyways I just want to thank people for the coup.

Envy- Insomniac Doze

Quote from: amg
As an emotion, Envy is a study in contradiction: a desire, perhaps, for something of beauty, made ugly by its unattainability. As one of the Seven Deadly Sins, it's a minor transgression compared to Wrath or Greed, ranked only above Sloth or Gluttony for its degree of wickedness. But it could be considered a "gateway" sin that leads to the more major offenses of Lust and Wrath. As a band, Envy embrace the contradictory nature of their namesake, combining beatific swells of epic post-rock with their inherent textural guitar, martial drumming, and dynamic flourishes, with the ugliness of raw-throated screaming taking the place of traditional vocals. There are moments where the vocals are spoke-sung in a Mogwai-esque fashion (albeit in Japanese), but then the band's screamo-core roots are exposed as the vocalist unleashes the guttural howls of an infinitely tortured psyche. Sonically, the band resides near its countrymen Mono and labelmates Explosions in the Sky, with the chiming, intertwined guitars, circular drum patterns, and combustive dynamics of the soft-loud-soft ethic. The juxtaposition between the triumphant-sounding major-chord guitar pyrotechnics and the raspy screamed vocals is jarring yet effective. It's a true catharsis to endure that seems to conjure up all the world's pain and beauty simultaneously. The anguish and pathos blended into the majestic grandeur of cinematic post-rock set Envy apart and demonstrate just how deadly this sin can be.

Here is Grandaddy. They were one of my first favorite bands and I still love them five years later! Woo!

One of my favorite albums ever, The Sophtware Slump

Quote from: allmusic
Picking up where their Signal to Snow Ratio EP left off, Grandaddy's wittily named second album The Sophtware Slump upgrades the group's wry, country-tinged rock with electronic flourishes that run through the album like fiber-optic lines. Arpeggiated keyboards sparkle on "Hewlett's Daughter" and "The Crystal Lake," and wind, birds, and transmissions hover around the songs' peripheries, suggesting a Silicone Valley landscape. Jason Lytle's frail, poignant vocals provide a bittersweet counterpoint to the chugging guitars and shiny electronics that envelop him like a cockpit or a cubicle on "Chartsengrafs" and "Broken Household Appliance National Forest" and set the tone for melancholy ballads like "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot," "Miner at the Dial-a-View," and "Jed the Humanoid," the story of a forgotten, alcoholic android. Lost pilots, robots, miners, and programmers try to find their way on The Sophtware Slump, an album that shares a spacy sadness with Sparklehorse's Good Morning Spider and Radiohead's OK Computer. Though it's a little more self-conscious and not quite as accomplished as either of those albums, it is Grandaddy's most impressive work yet and one of 2000's first worthwhile releases.

Sumday

AMG yells a lot about it but I just think it's good fun pop stuff.

Quote from: allmusic
Three years after the critically acclaimed The Sophtware Slump, Grandaddy returns with Sumday, which actually sounds more like a "sophtware slump" than their previous effort did. Like The Sophtware Slump, on Sumday the band attempts to reconcile the technological with the personal, both musically and lyrically. Several of the songs seem inspired by the rise and fall of the dotcoms and the Silicon Valley; this could have been a great opportunity for some interesting musical commentary, which is why it's so disappointing that the results are bland and complacent. Musically, the album's mix of chugging, fuzzy guitars; sparkly synths; and tinny drum machines is pleasant enough -- it's a mix of country-rock, soft rock, and new wave that suggests what a collaboration between Gram Parsons and the Alan Parsons Project might sound like -- but it's a little dated, and oddly enough, not as musically adventurous as The Sophtware Slump. Sumday's sequencing emphasizes its failings; the album begins with eight similarly quirky, mid-tempo songs that, on the first few listens, blend into each other so seamlessly that the first two-thirds of the album sound almost like one 30-minute track. That may have been Grandaddy's intention, but unfortunately it does their songs a disservice. Yet it's the songwriting itself that makes Sumday so frustrating. Songs like "The Go in the Go-For-It," "The Group Who Couldn't Say" -- a tale of corporate overachievers so bent on success that they've forgotten what it's like to be outdoors -- and "OK With My Decay" focus on feeling stuck, bored, alienated, and dissipated to the point that they tend to sound that way too. The resigned, cyber-slacker vibe that permeates the album also adds to the impression that it's a relic from the recent past; the songs involving robots and e-mail, such as "I'm on Standby" and "Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake," feel downright quaint. Sumday does feature some worthwhile songs, however: the opening track, "Now It's On," is bouncy and engaging, while "Lost on Yr Merry Way" and "El Caminos in the West" manage to make the emotional leap from resigned to poignant. Not coincidentally, the few times when Grandaddy writes songs about relationships rank among the album's highlights. Sumday's overall complacent sound actually suits "Yeah Is What We Had," a lackadaisical look at a blasé relationship; "The Warming Sun" is a sweet apology to an ex that is among the most heartfelt songs the band has written; and "Saddest Vacant Lot in All the World," with its rolling pianos, layered harmonies, and lovelorn vignettes, is much more evocative than most of the album, and sounds a bit like the Abbey Road-era Beatles performing "Mr. Bojangles" to boot. Even though the album rallies in its second half, by the wannabe-epic closing track "The Final Push to the Sum," it's hard to escape how much effort was expended on these mostly disappointing songs about stagnation. It's also unfortunate that Sumday comes out in the wake of the Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, an album that handles similar, the-world-is-shutting-down themes much more poetically and passionately. Thought-provoking and a bit of a downer in ways Grandaddy probably didn't intend, Sumday isn't a totally empty experience, but its ambitions and results don't add up as well as might have been expected.

If your into post-rock (well, that's the focus but they have other stuff too), it might be worth it to check the after the post-rock forums. They have a whole sub-forum dedicated to uploads but it's a bit of a clusterfuck there. (read: Really fucking messy)

Talking Heads - The Name of This Band is Talking Heads

Quote
Although most people probably think the only Talking Heads live release is Stop Making Sense, the fact is that there's an earlier, better live album called The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. Originally released in 1982 on LP and cassette, the album chronicles the growth of the band, both stylistically and personnel-wise. The first LP is the original quartet version of the band, recorded between 1977 and 1979, performing excellent versions of tunes (mostly) off 77 and More Songs About Buildings and Food. Also included were the previously unavailable "A Clean Break" and "Love Goes to a Building on Fire," as well as early versions of "Memories Can't Wait" and "Air." The second LP comes from the Remain in Light tour, recorded in 1980 and 1981. In order to present something close to the music on that album, the original quartet lineup was greatly expanded. Added were two percussionists (Steven Stanley, Jose Rossy), two backup singers (Nona Hendryx, Dollette McDonald), Busta Cherry Jones on bass, Bernie Worrell (!) on keys, and a young Adrian Belew on lead guitar. The excitement of this material is palpable, and the muscular band rips into these tunes with more power than the originals in most cases. "Drugs" gets revamped for live performance, and "Houses in Motion kicks into high gear with a great art-funk coda. Belew is absolutely on fire throughout, especially on "The Great Curve" and "Crosseyed and Painless," where his deranged feedback soloing has never sounded better. At this point in their career, Talking Heads were still basically an underground band; it was "Burning Down the House" that really thrust them into the mainstream, and Stop Making Sense documents their arrival as a more or less mainstream act. The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads captures a hungry band on its way up, performing with a fire that was never matched on later tours. Unfortunately, The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads remained unavailable on compact disc for years, which is a shame since it's arguably one of their finest releases.

Quote from: triple j
Cloud Control came together during the warmest winter on record. They were four folk from the Blue Mountains; school friends, brother and sister. Inspired by the great melody makers of our time, Cloud Control embrace the alt-folk tradition, with Neil Young-inspired vocals and inventive pop melodies. The band salutes the music of yesteryear with boy/girl harmonies reminiscent of The Lucksmiths and Fleetwood Mac. Their first demo received high rotation on FBi radio and saw them emerge as regulars on the Sydney gig circuit in the wake of winning the 2006 Sydney University band competition. In the summer of 2007 Cloud Control recorded their debut EP live to analogue tape, inside a stone house in the Blue Mountains. Produced in collaboration with Jon Hunter (Belles Will Ring, The Holy Soul, The Laurels) and mastered by Don Bartley at Benchmark Studios, the EP showcases a depth of songwriting that is characterised by a playful, yet intelligent originality.

For those unfamiliar with him, Moondog was one of the most unique, and enigmatic musical figures of the twentieth century. He lived as a street musician in New York for 20 years, dressing only in his homemade clothes, an homage to Thor, and playing instruments he created. I can't really sum anything up here, so I'll just link you to the AMG page. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:jnfoxqe5ldhe~T1
His music can be described as minimalist modern-classical, with some Jazz influence, with occasional spoken word pieces of his poetry. You have to hear it to appreciate how amazing it is.

This is his second album: Moondog, I think it's a good starting point.

Hey guys, sorry for the rapidshare link but it is only one file so it isn't that big a deal, hopefully.

Its a band I just discovered called morgirion. It's great stuff, its a blend of symphonic black metal and death metal, but exactly in the middle of them two genres. There are some doomy parts too. It is absolutely brilliant stuff, the keys blend in perfectly without being cheesy and its a pretty much unique sound (apart from one other band, but they are boring   :|). Anyways, I didn't upload this, the lead vocalist from the band did (thats why it is on rapidshare), so its a legal download, for once.

And for you guys, tonight we have some delicious, old-school Beck

Banjo Story and Stray Blues.

Quote
Banjo Story is the first known Beck recording. It is a home-made tape from 1988 that was never actually released, but given out for free, sold at the counter of friends' record stores, or sold at gigs. It has, however, since been discovered and made it on to the trading circuit.

Quote
Stray Blues -B Side Collection- is an album by Beck released on June 13, 2000. It is a collection of B-sides that was only released in Japan.

Hey the Hollow you know what you forgot?

Here's a hint:

Quote
Rules:

No hotlinking images or albums. You can rehost images at http://imageshack.us.

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediafire.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know Mediafire is safe and efficient, and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums.

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

Quote
AMG: Although Boards of Canada's blueprint for electronic listening music -- aching electro-synth with mid-tempo hip-hop beats and occasional light scratching -- isn't quite a revolution in and of itself, Music Has the Right to Children is an amazing LP. Similar to the early work of Autechre and Aphex Twin, the duo is one of the few European artists who can match their American precursors with regard to a sense of spirit in otherwise electronic music. This is pure machine soul, reminiscent of some forgotten Japanese animation soundtrack or a rusting Commodore 64 just about to give up the ghost. Alternating broadly sketched works with minute-long vignettes (the latter of which comprise several of the best tracks on the album), Music Has the Right to Children is one of the best electronic releases of 1998.

Just their third missive in the past seven years, The Campfire Headphase displays Boards of Canada changing few of their methods but more of their sounds. The key difference between this record and its predecessors is the advent of unprocessed, recognizable guitars (a small heresy to portions of their fanbase). Although it smacks of a gimmick, and does occasionally remove the mysticism from their productions, it marks a good addition to their palette. Still in effect -- and still never equaled anywhere else -- is the pair's ability to make electronic music that not only evokes a much earlier period in music, but sounds as though it was last issued decades in the past as well. Intentionally aged and mistreated, the productions evoke the image of a reel-to-reel machine's 1/4" magnetic tape steadily disintegrating as it plays for the last time. The long gestation period of this material is also a hallmark of Boards of Canada, and it shows in the attention to detail. No production escapes their Hexagon Sun studio without being slaved over, and consequently The Campfire Headphase is one of the best-produced records of the year. One surprise is that, finally, a BoC track evokes another artist rather than standing alone: "Satellite Anthem Icarus," the third track, sounds like it could've emerged from the mixing desk of Nigel Godrich as he worked on Beck's Sea Change; in fact, many listeners' imaginations will be able to insert a world-weary vocal into the song and thus make the resemblance perfect. (Of course, Godrich has likely learned much from previous Boards of Canada work.) Also, while the duo have improved slightly as producers in seven years, they haven't grown as melody makers. The Campfire Headphase lacks the transcendent grace that made Music Has the Right to Children and even Geogaddi classics in their field. Working the same territory over and over again may have improved their touch, but it has assuredly stifled their innovative powers.

yeah.

i like this one almost as much as "music".

Laura's first LP. I don't think it's as good as Radio Swan is Down, but it's still a damn fine record.

In his later years, legendary lyricist Sammy Cahn took to the stage to perform myriad of his songs solo, interspersing them with a running commentary that kept audiences enthralled, all captured for posterity on his An Evening with Sammy Cahn album. Adam Green's Jacket Full of Danger album casts a similar spell, even without a spoken commentary. The singer/songwriter may indeed be a Cahn for a new age; he has similar gifts for lyrical construction and turns of phrase.

However, Green also graduated with honors from the story-telling school of songwriting, listing Hank Williams, Roy Orbison, and Chet Baker as inspirations. You can hear traces of them all in his vocal delivery, with a touch of Elvis Presley to boot. Musically, however, Green's far more eclectic than that roster implies, and his range of influences is quite extraordinary. The melody from Lou Reed's "Street Life" pumps through "Nat King Cole," a Chuck Berry riff barrels through "Hollywood Bowl," the drone of the Velvet Underground's "Venus in Furs" fires up "C-Birds," the Gershwins infuse "Drugs," while Motown soars with "Vultures." And it's Motown-styled orchestral strings that sweep through much of the set, to turn many of the song's arrangements inside out. In contrast, the lyrics reflect Green's jaded, cynical world view, along with a sometimes tart take on women, and a mouth that at one point is so foul it would make Lenny Bruce (or Ol' Dirty Bastard for that matter) blush. In any event, the songs instantly get under your skin, both musically and lyrically, and all told, Jacket is an exceedingly clever set, but one that doesn't call attention to just how smart it is. Definitely not your typical singer/songwriter, Adam Green is so much more than that, and this album has a classic, timeless feel to it, brilliantly drawing from divergent musical traditions (much like the Gershwins in that respect), twisting from them an unique but incredibly familiar sound. Green's past albums have all been enjoyable affairs. This one, however, is a masterpiece.

Posted this in another thread but here's the new Mountain Goats. I don't think an explanation is really needed. Just know that it's really good:
