So..someone on here (who will remain unnamed) told me yesterday that they thought "New Wave" was Against Me!'s first album.

And since I'm uploading the rest of the albums for her, I figured I might as well post them here (I'm pretty sure I'd posted "New Wave" well back in the day, anyway)

Against Me! - Reinventing Axl Rose

Against Me!'s Reinventing Axl Rose is an impressive debut that manages to combine fist-in-the-air singalong choruses, lagered-up rhythms, and urgent drumbeats with the underground, raw intensity these punks are known for live. It's a dynamic record that not only stands firm in its own right, but also hints at a propensity for songwriting in Tom Gabel -- the group's hoarse, politically conscious singer/songwriter -- just starting to be fully realized. From the rowdy, country-influenced drinking anthem "Pints of Guinness Make You Strong," to the somber closing notes of "8 Full Hours of Sleep," Against Me! performs every track with the passion of those who truly believe a song among friends can start a movement for change. The band's leftist political agenda is often offset by empowering social lyrics boasting sentiments of unity, individualism, and self-awareness. Tracks like the lively and rebellious "Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious..." declare that "We rock/Because it's us against them/We've found our own reasons to sing," while the album's title track urgently professes, "Everyone would leave with the memory that there was no place else in the world and this was where they always belonged." Often deviating from the standard punk musical blueprint, Against Me!'s blend of energetic folk/punk rock is nothing short of refreshing and engaging. Reinventing Axl Rose is a true classic that brings listeners right into the dirty basements and dive bars that birthed the band -- and serves as the foundation to where they would head next.

As The Eternal Cowboy

Though not without the hallmarks of Fat Wreck Chords punk, Against Me!'s As the Eternal Cowboy marks a giant leap forward for the label by combining poppy punk rock with leftist politics, Billy Bragg's raspy anti-folk, and the Replacements' beer-soaked version of Americana. The Gainesville, FL, outfit may have embraced a slightly slicker production than with its fan favorite, Reinventing Axl Rose, but no matter how you stack it, As the Eternal Cowboy is an accomplished record of country-folk-punk that would only qualify as over-polished by the most hard-lined, anti-bar code punk kids' criteria. From the opening swampy croon and (decidedly un-swampy) Elvis -- that's Costello not Presley -- rant of "T.S.R." to the sleepy country ballad "Sink, Florida, Sink," Against Me! is inventive and strikingly emotional compared to its contemporaries, and uses its influences brilliantly without sounding derivative. The album's main weakness is that at under 30 minutes, it comes and goes before you know it. But if the Pogues of the South sounds of "Cliché Guevara" and "You Look Like I Need a Drink" are any indication, the band will put out its rambling, shambling slow album one day. At its best, As the Eternal Cowboy is one of the few early-2000s punk albums that transcends its genre and has the rock & roll clout to storm the mainstream.

Searching For A Former Clarity

Against Me! is a band closely tied to their independent and underground roots, yet after the attention paid to 2003's As the Eternal Cowboy, they found themselves teetering on the edge of the mainstream spotlight -- and dealing with the possibility of signing with a major label. Perhaps reflecting this situation, Searching for a Former Clarity finds Against Me! issuing their most introspective album to date. In both subject matter and song composition, they expand upon elements of previous releases without being afraid to veer away from expectations -- the lively opener "Miami," after all, features a horn section. The band has always slightly defied genre classification, and this disc further proves they can run the stylistic gamut and barely miss a step -- from the weary rock-bottom mosey of "How Low" to the stylish, dancey -- though somewhat annoying chorus of -- "Unprotected Sex with Multiple Partners." Along with biting lyrics commenting on the current climate of both the political and punk scenes, this disc explores the band's softer and more intimate side further. For every sarcastic "we took the movement to the market...we totally sold out the scene" ("Mediocrity Gets You Pears"), there's the acoustic, content stirrings of "Joy," and the soothing, somber drumbeats of the AIDS-oriented title track. Bush-era frustrations fuel energetic songs like the guitar-driven, tongue-in-cheek tune titled "From Her Lips to God's Ears," whose taunting chorus asserts "Condoleeza, what are we gonna do now?" On the whole, the album may be a bit more sober and resentful than previous efforts, but the passion, energy, and urgency Against Me! is known for is no less present. Instead, Searching for a Former Clarity is a more developed effort that is not only one of the best punk releases of 2005, but further establishes the band's growing importance within the punk scene.

Teenage Bottlerocket - Total

Teenage Bottlerocket came to life following the dissolution of Laramie pop-punks the Lillingtons. And even though there are definite similarities between the two bands (Kody Templeman, for one thing, fronts both), Teenage Bottlerocket manages to carve itself out a distinct identity, mostly due to the variety created by the trade-off vocals of Templeman and bassist Ray Carlisle. The latter has a rough, somewhat slurred delivery that complements Templeman's higher, snider approach, and together they bring a lot of life and heart into straightforward, two-minute punk songs. Total is right up at the top with the best pop-punk out there nowadays overtly indebted to the Ramones, the quartet blasting through each song with an undeniable energy and a self-deprecating sense of humor that never lets up and never lets down. Whether they're singing about haplessly trying to land a date or later trying to simply lose the girl, Teenage Bottlerocket seem like those guys in high school who were just doing their own thing, happy with their friends and punk 7"s, and unconcerned with anything else. They may not tread any new ground, but it hardly matters here. Besides, how can anyone hate a record that includes such charming lines as "If you're cold I'll let you wear my Ramones sweatshirt/ If you fall I'm gonna make sure that you're not hurt/Won't you fall for me?" No really, the hooks in the song make it work splendidly. If you're still mourning the loss of the Lillingtons, there's no use crying because Teenage Bottlerocket is here to save the day. Catchy, genuinely cool, and full of plenty of wo-ohs, Total is some of the most fun to be had all year.

Ok, so here's the deal.
these guys... Vampire Hands,from Minneapolis, have been on tour for the last month or more, and playing super small venues, pretty much dropping the jaws of anyone within' listening distance.  i just missed them at o'leaver's pub in omaha a few weeks back and have been kicking myself ever since.  This may be the next big thing!  it is all at once melodic, super rhythmic, rockin', and original.  One can hear influences from everything from Tyranosaurus Rex, to Smart Went Crazy, to Animal Collective, but they do not sound like any of the bands mentioned. Check them out on Myspace.. they have another album out now on Freedom From - which i haven't heard yet.... I'm pretty sure anyone on this forum would like this.  Check it out and if you like it, please buy their LPs!

This has never happened to me since I started using mediaf!re.

They took down my June of 44 album I put up like scant days after I upped it. I believe it was because it "violated their acceptable use policy".

A few of the other albums I did upload about a month ago are still up.

Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses

Jethro Tull's 11th studio album is one of their prettier records, a veritable celebration of English folk music chock full of gorgeous melodies, briskly played acoustic guitars and mandolins, and Anderson's flute lilting in the background, backed by the group in top form. This record is a fairly close cousin to 1977's Songs From the Wood, except that its songs are decidedly more passionate, sung with a rough, robust energy that much of Tull's work since Thick As a Brick had been missing, and surpassing even Aqualung in its lustiness. "No Lullaby" is the signature heavy riff song, a concert version of which opened Live—Bursting Out. Anderson sings it—and everything else here—as though it might be the last lines he ever gets to voice, with tremendous intensity. The band plays hard behind him throughout, with lead guitarist Martin Barre (most notably on "Weathercock") and bassist John Glascock showing up very well throughout. Anderson's production and Robin Black's engineering catch their every nuance without sacrificing the delicacy of his acoustic guitar and mandolin playing. "Acres Wild," "Rover," "One Brown Mouse," "Weathercock," and "Moths" (which makes this listener think of a folk version of Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill"), the latter featuring some of David Palmer's most tasteful orchestral arrangements, are among the loveliest songs in the group's entire repertory. Curved Air's Darryl Way plays violin solo on the title track — a tribute to England's vanishing shire horses, which doesn't really take off until Way's instrument comes in on the break, with a marked tempo change — and on "Acres Wild."
