All you people saying Marigold is a bitch or "as a nerd she should know how it feels to be made fun of"... It's like we have stoutfiles back.
Seriously, do none of you and your friends tease each other with playful banter? Even if you don't, have you not noticed that this group of people does? It is one of the main comedic themes in the strip as a whole.
To me it seems to indicate Marigold's increased comfort with socialization, especially with this group. She feels secure enough to engage in the type of barbed exchanges the rest of the group does. Also, Marigold recognizes the irony of the situation, given Faye's past conception and comments about her.
akronnick:
Marigold is pretty new at the whole healthy interaction with friends paradigm.
As such, she is bound to make some mistakes. I trust her friends will set her straight.
Either that or Faye will pummel her into oblivion. :psyduck:

Like he's about to do something absolutely batshit insane to his characters.
Because of us fuckers.

I think it's more that the interpretations here often go way beyond what he has in mind (and may well be wrong anyway!), and have absolutely no effect on him whatever.

I am.
Of course, I didn't have the sound to the Ustream on, but if he started playing LL Cool J, I'd REALLY get worried.

Yes; indeed, that's the whole joke. It's what makes it funny. There would be no joke if Marigold's ribbing had come from any other character.
I can see why you'd be taken aback if you didn't see that joke or find it funny.
But as alluded to before, it's a fine line between friendly ribbing and nastiness. Which is why the former is usually reserved for exchange between good friends.
Oh also: I'm more amused than nervous about Jeph's post. But I haven't been as bothered by Marten's behaviour as the people Jeph was alluding to.
