Comic Discussion > QUESTIONABLE CONTENT
WCDT 2061-2065; Thanksgiving Week (Nov. 21-25, 2011)
Is it cold in here?:
Marten can't decide on feelings, but he can decide within limits what to dwell on.
Interlude:
You know, at first I actually disliked that he had sex with Padma. I don't think he is the kind of person who can handle a fling or a one-night stand. I'm not going to negatively judge anyone who DOES, but some people just cannot separate attachment and emotion from sexual encounters, and that's fine, too. However, after reading today's comic, I decided-- hey, maybe it's time Marten receives a solid life lesson. I don't think he is stupid for being upset, but I DO like that his friends aren't babying him about this. If he is someone who can't handle this sort of thing, he needs to know to distance himself from these situations. He should have had a clear idea of what he was getting into, and acting like he's not sure now is silly. I don't like Padma, but she certainly never did or said anything to make him think that she would be trying for a relationship or anything more than what they were already doing-- unless Marten took sex to mean that, which some people do. But since this is not the case for everyone, it should not have been the main assumption.
Like I said, it's fine for him to feel sad. I just think he needs to mature a bit in how he handles his relationships. I agree with Steve-- he is acting like he has to decide how to feel about this all on his own, without even considering how Padma feels toward the situation/him.

Yes, Marten definitely decide on his own how he's going to feel about his fling with Padma. However, in typical Marten style, he's being completely wishy-washy and back-and-forth about it, so it may be another comic page or two, even longer, before he finally makes up his mind. Or Padma makes it up for him.

Is that... DARIA in the left-hand corner in panel one?! :-D

No, but I think that IS "that certain red-headed girl" on the phone in the background.

"Wishy-washy".
Okay, that's it - just give him the yellow shirt with the up-and-down stripes on it and call him "Charlie Brown".
