Maybe guy doesn't get many phonecalls and has been waiting for that call all [amount of time that has passed]? If you are eagerly awaiting a phonecall or a visit, you will expect every call/knock to be the one you are waiting for.

What if Padma just spent this week getting things situated with her grandma so that she didnt have to go back to California but didn't want to ruin the surprise for Marten.
