Weird dreams you've had

mtmerrick:
I've never once heard ”the genders“ and ”the sexes“ used as separate concepts, even when talking to people in the LGBT crowd.

Valdís:
You just did:

--- Quote from: ackblom12 on 14 Apr 2013, 16:08 ---Sex is your bits, Gender is a mixture of the social, neurological and psychological side of things.
--- End quote ---

Which actually illustrates why I, as a Swede, can think the divide is odd at times. Using sex like that other one could be obsolete and offensive when referring to people like me. It doesn't matter what my "bits" are or were, they wouldn't define my gender as synonymous with that. But it's also trying to get away from the baggage of being defined by those bits with Gender, which is more accurate, even if still contrasted with sex. I can't really see the use outside of describing dysphoria and it certainly should either encompass all concepts or distinctly be separate ones (hence, gender).

I wouldn't want someone saying "She's male" and claiming they were talking about my 'sex' in the latter part as a matter of not being cisnormative enough for their liking yet. English is weird. :psyduck:

Well I'm in 100% agreement with you there :P

jwhouk:
That's three threads over.

Zingoleb:
also merrick, it would be nice to remember that you are 18 and despite how you may feel, you do not in fact know everything

so when someone tells you you're wrong (or, in fact, multiple people tell you so, giving reasons why), you might want to listen and go, "oh, i didn't know that!" instead of flipping your shit. it gets you ahead in life way faster.
