All of the above. I'm afraid 'sad' will be overpresented given what happened at her Sweet Sixteen party.
But we shouldn't necessarily apply our standards (in the off chance that we could agree on such a thing) to gauge how sad Hannelore might have been. She has a very fine imagination and can escape to fantasyland and/or find happiness from unexpected places.

Much about Hannelore could be explained if she's a genetic engineering experiment.
