What are you listening to?

This is just completely odd, given my personal history, but bear with me:

After hearing Sir Paul's take on "The End" at the Opening Ceremonies at the London Olympics, I knew I had to just go out and get a copy of the album that it is on - Abbey Road, for you young whippersnappers.

Now, back in the day I might have gone and gotten a CD from my local Best Buy or Wal-Mart. Of course, that was back when I wasn't 15-30 minutes away from the local Best Buy or Wal-Mart. So my option was to buy the album from iTunes.

Not so difficult, right? Well, that was when my computer decided that it was way too hot in our office, and decided to give me the De-Rez screen to let me know. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work in a few minutes, so I pulled out my iPod Touch, swiped a few screens, and bingo - the entire album was downloaded for me, right to my iPod.

I listened to a bit of it at work, and thought to myself, "Man, if you could go back to 1970 and explain what I just did to buy the album to the four of them, they'd think I was on a real bad acid trip or something."

Being a creature of habit, I am again drinking Laphroaig and listening to the complete discography of Gwyneth Glyn.

As I said earlier, a fellow could get to enjoy this kind of activity.

Of course, you miss part of the experience.  Leaving the runout groove of Sgt Pepper playing for ages while trying to work out what it means; getting caught out by the hidden track on Abbey Road (the long pause on the LP before Her Majesty).  Also physical extras like the Sgt Pepper cutouts and the Let It Be photo book (still on my shelf).

They left out the silence on the iTunes version? Dat silly.

I don't know; but it would be less of a surprise.
