oh my GOD I just remembered how I found the qcverse, and it's much earlier than I remember thought.

edited because the last word made no friggin sense in that context

What the shit, you have only been here for half a year?

Was the author of "The Never-Ending Story" paid by the word?

yeah his name's Charles Dickens

FUCK GOD DAMN CHARLES DICKENS WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT
You mean Michael Ende.

I have this thing where if I am really tired, I start getting dreams while mostly conscious, I can tell people what's happening in the dream and everything. Shortly after, I start talking bullshit, because my short-term memory seems to skip stuff and if I arrive at a conclusion, I don't remember how I got there, so if there is something in my "dream" about running elephants, I might start talking about how elephants are not very good runners and probably need running shoes, and then immediately forget how I got there.

Yeah but I meant the time I found the comic not the forums.

Yeah, that was unrelated. I could have sworn you had been in the forums for a year at least. (By the way, happy forum-half-anniversary).

I was thinking hard about when I first discovered the comic because I immediately jumped into the archives so I don't quite remember the arc happening at the time. Although I think it was late-ish 2008, so during the Sven/Faye arc. Just means I read the comic for three years before even looking at the forum.  :psyduck:

I was trying to write a semi-analytic blog post about RASSLIN' because I thought it might be interesting for some to read the perspective of a person who basically stopped following RASSLIN' well over ten years ago and missed almost all the 00's and has got back into it over the last couple years. It quickly started to turn into a love letter to a (to me) new wrestler that I didn't like at first when I started rewatching and now completely adore and I've realised how much I need a space to fanperson over RASSLIN'.

I can't stop typing/saying the word that way, I'm sorry.

Whenever I see "rassle" I think of that episode of Rugrats, when they go to the family reunion and that big baby asks if Angelica wants to rassle.

I should rewatch Rugrats.

It's stuck in my brain to say it that way because of the South Park episode.

Dead leaves are still full of useful structural chemicals and have plenty of raw energy stored (as you see if you put them in a fire).

So why doesn't anything macroscopic eat them? Even if it requires exotic bacterial enzymes, why isn't there something macroscopic which has a symbiotic relationship with leaf-digesting gut bacteria?

I think it's actually fungi that digest the majority of dead plant material.

Plant matter is really hard to break down. At the point where the bacteria and fungi have broken it down to be digestible by anything that's not super specialized, I assume that all of the nutrition is gone.

I think grazing creatures can eat leaves, but I don't know if they eat the fallen ones. Maybe they taste bad?

Earthworms will do stuff in a sufficiently compressed pile of leaves, I suspect.

Compressed isn't enough. As far as I was aware, earthworms literally only eat dirt (no teeth, you see) so the plant material has to be sufficiently decomposed to fit through an earthworm mouth, and has to be mixed with the soil.

Yes, that makes sense. I was thinking that the top layer of dead leaves in a forest (which are not deader than the other ones, right?) are generally still whole and strong, while the ones at the bottom are pulpy and fall apart as soon as you pick them up. I imagine that earthworms would be able to eat the bottom layer, but not the top.

I had a brain-damaged kitty as well. He was so derpy and adorable. And he fell down the steps a lot.

oh man, cutest fuckin thing I ever did see was part of a litter born by my ex girlfriend's roommate. he was rather abnormally formed, had little club feet, and the roommate had an equally twisted sense of humor to mine and called him Tardo at my request. he was super clumsy and HELLA loving and I really wish he had lived longer than a week. poor little guy, I miss him so bad. RIP Tardo you were seriously the best kitten.

I am noticing all through the interwebs that a popular costume idea for halloween this year is a group costume effort as the 3 witches from hocus pocus.  Both men and women are getting into this trend this year.

Or something.

I must ask: Why is Facebook offering me ads to "find love with Chinese Buddhist women"? I'm married, which Facebook damned well knows, so I'm not looking for a mail-order bride. I'm also not Buddhist. Or Chinese, for that matter.

I'm not sure many/any Chinese Buddhist people would be looking for a mail-order bride either, I always thought of those agencies as being for people who fetishise ethnicities and cultures they don't belong to.

I get more dating site adds ever since I became single about a year ago, I am fairly certain it is because of the facebooks.

Is preferring a specific ethnicity that is not your own any worse than preferring your own ethnicity?

Not at all. You're attracted to whatever combination of features you find attractive, and that's your own business.

Still scratching my head about what triggered that ad for me, though. I guess their algorithm only matched on "male". Maybe within a specific age range. But clearly it didn't bother to check relationship status. And why the ad made such a big deal out of the fact that these women were Chinese Buddhists, when I don't get similar ads for any other combination of ethnicity and religion...  :?
