I don't recall the exact post, though I recall the fact; but there's a difference between admitting to something and encouraging it.  The manner of admitting to it can affect the perception as well, and forum members have when appropriate been asked, both publicly and privately, to stop talking about their illegal behaviour.

Loki's response is, of course, tongue-in-cheek, as it's not clear that the behaviour in the strip is necessarily illegal (though there may be relevant bye-laws).

I'm pretty sure there's no law in Germany which could prevent speed beer, as long as you're not harming or disturbing anyone. Sadly, there are no hills whatsoever, where I live.

Some of the people who did that still do, but elsewhere; others appear to have grown out of it.

What Paul said. I meant to clarify it, but as I was typing the post, my phone battery got empty and I hadn't had the opportunity to comment since.

As far as I can tell speed beer is completely legal on private property. Might be a bit iffier if you go to a park or something in the United States, or depending on how jack booted your local LEOs are.

I'd guess it depends on how much real work the local police have. The ones here have little real work to do, so they'd be all over it in a second. Of course, you couldn't do it anyway, as you'd need a hill and snow, both of which are in short supply here. Plus, the beer being 3.2% might throw off the balance of the game.  :psyduck:

Well yeah, absolutely, the open containers/public drunkenness would be the only issues (and the fact that the main sledding hill in my town is behind an elementary school, so even being there at night might be considered trespassing).

Yeah, it's lower than normal beer, so it might tilt the balance of the game in favor of hypothermia.

Yeah, you can buy real beer at liquor stores, but anything you'd buy at a grocery store or convenience store is 3.2%. Oh, and the liquor stores close at 9 PM.

True, but isn't the point to try to neither pass out nor get hypothermia?

Method: I dunno about the US, but over here you can find beer like that in any well sorted liquor store. Even stronger ones, the one I used to work at had beer with 15% for some time. Didn't sell well though.

Yeah, in New Jersey you can buy them in liquor stores (and some grocery stores). I've bought two types of 18% beer. They're $8 or so a bottle, so I don't have them usually. (Both by Dogfish Head, World Wide Stout and 120 Minute IPA, the latter is harder to find).

The proper term for 3.2% is water.

its a slow day at work so we put together a game by email of Risk.  When he made the game he then proceeded to give us all nicknames.  He was "Transformers 3 Greatest Action Movie Ever" our friend Abe was "He hasn't seen Star Wars"  and mine was "Ron Swanson Fan"  (Honestly, I thought he was going to give me a bad name haha)

While checking e-mail and everything, my cat decided to climb up on a filing cabinet in my office, next to my computer.

As is her status as a kitten (still), she knocked something off the top of the cabinet and onto the floor.

...my plush Winslow.

My first reaction when I picked up Winslow? "No! He doesn't like kitties!"

Every time I end up at TVTropes, I end up at the alternate history articles, and I end up finding something new to read that ends up being a huge timesink. Currently reading Fear, Loathing, and Gumbo on the Campaign Trail '72, in which the Democrats run a competent (though apparently corrupt) candidate in the 1972 presidential election and in the process screw up everything.

So while I'm at home for a month because of Winter Break, I've decided I want to try to take the bus to get around as much as possible. I already can navigate my little college town's (free! for everyone, not just college students) routes, and I want to try it on a bigger scale (even though it isn't free). My first experiment will be the day after I get back when my high school theatre teacher is being honored with an award. The stop is about a mile from my house and there's a transfer involved. There's a stop right in front of my old high school.

Unlike the buses around my college, which are easily labeled by color, the bus networks of my hometown are a morass of numbers, "connectors," and completely different night routes. It's the kind of thing I want to be able to deal with if I ever "make it" to Chicago or any other big city for that matter. I'd love to be able to not have to worry about gas, insurance, repairs, etc. etc.

Unfortunately I'll have to settle for practicing with buses because the fucking South and it's serious public transportation deficiency even in major cities. But that's a whole other thing.

...Pregnant? :psyduck:

Okay, I took a look on wiktionary and this is quite a contrast..

English: Pregnant; now used chiefly of egg-laying animals, or metaphorically.
Swedish: Pregnant (carrying an unborn child, generally only applied to humans)

for the weal of men, for the woe of Jötuns,
Hail, thou who hast spoken! Hail, thou that knowest!
Hail, ye that have hearkened! Use, thou who hast learned!

Moral of the story: Swedish people lay eggs.

I knew it! This explains why you keep stealing sheets to make a nest with.

Mmhm. Though that might not be the most usual Swedish circumstance, what with me being in a minority group as far as this stuff goes n' all...

Interesting - I think that definition is wrong personally, the word gravid is used to mean pregnant when applied to humans in English too. At least, on my course we talk about the gravid uterus, and primigravida, multigravida etc. Yes, it's a specialist term, but that doesn't stop it counting!

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

Somehow, a seemingly harmless statement in a holiday drinking game description has managed to reignite my blind rage for Human-Proof Clamshell Packaging.

I'm not sure an inanimate object has ever caused me to feel this much emotion.
