I'd like to think Marvin is Martin's distant Japanese relative.

Actually, no. But replying with "so's your face" is acceptable.

Your face is unacceptable.
WUZZAH!!!

Because after that nice and sweet, touching moment, Hanners basically said, "Marten, you suck at this." Normal people just do not do that after being so heartfelt and kind.

what yes they do I would totally do that to my friends.
(not that I'm making any claim to be normal)

I think that's looking a bit too into it. Plus there is a relief of tension after that and Marten doesn't look hurt or anything by it.
Also who said that holopony didn't work it's way to Marigold herself? Nobody said she wasn't sentient and maybe they bonded while on station enough to want to search her out.

[e-mail...]
Dear Marigold,
I sent you a parting gift as a souvenir of your trip up here to the station. Of which, I consulted with Station as to what to send you. Station had a good suggestion with the attachment to this e-mail, saying you seemed to enjoy it a lot. It was either this or a whole Space Ham, and the shipping costs and protocols for the latter are rather prohibitive. The attachment program should upload itself into any nearby compatible system.
Enjoy,
Francis York

I REALLY like this reasoning. Not that it makes it any less bizarre, but I think that would be endearing.
Although, I'm sure the forumites would have probably wanted more Spathe Ham instead....
For today's comic-
I was really looking forward to more Earth shenanigans but I can excuse it because that reference might be my favorite one in all of QC.
