1. "Who says we're friends?" If we have a line-of-the-week poll, that should be on it.

2. You would think that Momo, of all sentient beings, would have RTFM. Or perhaps the belly-button thing is an undocumented Easter egg. Which would suggest that the programmers of AIs, which would probably be AIs themselves, remain programmers even in the QC world.

I've decided that I quite like Gabby.

Oh man, I feel so tainted now Emily!  You now have me thinking what would happen if other buttons were pushed on Momo! :-o :psyduck:

Ah, Emily.  Her and Hanners need to meet NOW!

I think the world as we know it would end.

I can't help but imagine that a meeting between Hannelore and Emily would go, pretty much panel for panel, exactly like the meeting between Hanners and that giraffe at the zoo. :psyduck:

Aw come on Momo, lighten up. That is pretty funny. :P

And only after reading the comments did I realize that panel 3 was Momo thinking "Holy mackeral, I actually DO have a belly button! I never noticed that before!"

And I think that Emily should meet Raven. More often than not, they're on completely the same wavelengths as each other.

Aha, so Emily's the first to take an interest in Momo. Now to see if my old prediction pans out.

Wonder how long it'll take for Momo to totally lose patience and activate her electrical defense system. Or, you know, swat Emily's hand away and walk off. In a huff, of course.

In this situation, what angle would Marten hypothetically be working?

2. The darker angle, this is all an elaborate scheme to get back with Dora by encouraging what he thinks would be a bad relationship. I honestly can't see a relationship between Dora and Tai going too swimmingly after the initial "teeheehee kisses and boobies and enema-play!" thrill of things wears off, because Tai's complete inability to give a fuck mixed with Dora's almost crippling fretfulness could explode. So, following this same train of thought, Marten encourages the relationship, waits for it to blow up in Dora's face, then acts all buddy-buddy with her to make her think "Hey, maybe this guy wasn't so bad after all SMOOCHSMOOCHSMOOCH."

This second one sounds, unfortunately, like a typical Nice Guy ploy. Which like most such ploys, tend to fail utterly. What usually happens is either Dora and Tai end up lasting, or Dora cries on Marten's shoulder for awhile after the breakup, then starts dating someone else. I would hope that Marten would have learned from his experience with Faye that it's unwise to wait for a girl like that. Better to wish Dora and Tai luck and look for someone else to date.

Does her current chassis have the electrical defense system?  I think the only time we saw it was when she blew up Mari's computer.

Well, because he is passive, it can be hard to distinguish between Marten suppressing his feeling on the one hand, and him genuinely not being offended on the other. And we can only use our own feelings on the matter to determine the situation one way or another. Hence the disagreement on the forums.

Even someone who knows him very well has trouble telling which is which.

Okay, so a lot of people can't relate to Marten being quite so chill and passive. I agree with that 100%, and apparently even the creator thinks Marten has pathologic passivity with a lot of things in his life.

But in the character's defense, we do see Marten quite active in one respect: standing up for his friends. Both taking on VespAvenger (granted, pretty ineffectual: swingandamiss the first time, nut-shot'd out of action the second time) but also standing up for Hannelore in the face of a creeper Clinton.

= = =

And about Friday's comic: something about the pacing is very, very Azumanga-esque. Me likey.

Well, Momo could just shock the hell out of Emily to get her to quit since she can "knock a man out of his socks". That she hasn't here, and didn't when Hannelore was squeaking her skin, shows that on some level she likes the attention.

I'm with PWHodges, The Dora/Tai thing will probably be like a Roman candle. Lots of fun for a little while with a big explosion at the end.

Also Faye's comment in 2247 that "I've been doing it wrong," may be technically accurate, but she's certainly been on the recieving end of such a kiss.

Hey, that was the first strip I ever read. Thanks for reminding me! ;D

I think the problem I'm having with people saying that he must have an ulterior motive is that I don't think we've ever seen Marten NOT being completely up-front with people about his feelings. As to Is It Cold In Here's example, he DID admit that it would be a lot harder to stomach if he hadn't been with Dora at that point, and even during the legendary talk, he admitted more or less that he wasn't entirely over Faye and was more than a little disappointed with the outcome, BUT he was still open about it. No hidden agendas to be found.

Please, someone correct me if they find a counter-example.

And only after reading the comments did I realize that panel 3 was Momo thinking "Holy mackeral, I actually DO have a belly button! I never noticed that before!"
I thought it was more a look of surprise as a never-before realization came to her -  "...wait a minute!  There's no useful reason I should have a belly button.  DO i have a belly button?  I have no idea!"

Also, question for y'all - have these two comics been brought up yet?
I mean, after all, Tai is very close to having to face this particular fear!  Sloppy seconds indeed!

I was half expecting Emily to get zapped like Clinton was. Hanners also got away with poking her. Apparently Momo's defences are sophisticated enough to have gender-specific responses to violations of personal space. Hardly surprising (a sad fact reflecting RL, really).

But I just wonder how she would react to similar intrusions from other AIs? In light of the fact (as explained by Pintsize early on?) that to AnthroPCs gender is something like a programmable switch? Wonder whether that applies to Sony models also? I mean, I would have found it more than a bit creepy, if Momo had wanted an outwardly male chassis, when she went shopping for a new one with Marigold.

Actually, Marten has done the late-night "gotta get my girl back" drunk. If he hadn't, we'd be all posting about the weather right now. (HINT: it was the reason why a Cali-born indie boy ended up in Northampton...)
Like I said, it was late night (close to midnight here) then... and my archive-fu is substandard at best.

After a couple of weeks of anxiety-ridden, gastro-lepidopterous-induced nausea... we end the week in hilarity and awesomeness. Momo never tried changing her own colour scheme?

In any case I'm excited for tomorrow's strip.

I was thoroughly satisfied and delighted!

I took Panel 2/3's expressions more as, "UGH! Another stupid question- Wait... Do I? *check* I do. Neat." Rather than it was something Momo knew that just sunk in.

This has absolutely nothing to do with gender.

Marten could get away with things like that, too.

The problem is simply that Clinton was not just poking her, he was grabbing her, and closing in to more intimate areas, no less. And she didnt knew him at all in the first place ! They just met for the first time !

All that Hanners and Emily do is poking Momo for obvious effects. They didnt crossed a certain barrier of which Clinton obviously was completely unaware. It wasnt their first action towards Momo and they had an actual reason.

That line made me

Nicely done Michael.

Anyway, like I said before, Momo could also just slap Emily's hand away and walk off. Or run  . That that she's done neither so far makes it even funnier, like she's paralysed by the poking or something, and all she can do is stand there and verbally protest. Also, I think the last panel could be a whole page by itself of Emily poking Momo, her hair changing color each panel, with Momo yelling "Stop it!" each time.

EDIT: And yeah, I chose Animated BOOP! as Moment of The Week. The Dora-Tai will-they-won't-they drama was mildly entertaining, but I think the trainwreck ending of their relationship will be far more so. Meanwhile, Emily rules.
