Come on now - she's not being self-centered, I think she's just nervous or anxious. I had a date recently in which, in retrospect, I'd inadvertently spent way too much time talking about myself. Doesn't mean that I'm self-centered(i am like the painful opposite of that), it just means that words just kept flowing and flowing out because of nerves. Sometimes it's hard to remember to keep asking questions of the other person, especially if you're nervous. I mean, hopefully, the conversation just flows naturally, but we don't know if this one is or isn't (presumably it is). Also keep in mind that we're not seeing the whole conversation - there may indeed so many other parts where Tai is talking about herself and whatnot, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions.
--- End quote ---
I dunno. From expressions, to style of dress, to repeated foot in mouth (and not even realizing it), to the being pursued comment. There is more than that going on. It is plainly obvious she's enjoying being pursued and she seems far more interested in the benefits of herself right now than showing any true interest in Tai.
--- End quote ---
More than that, she really seems to be a relaxed space cadet more than anything. I see no nerves -at all- going on here, in facial expression or, more importantly, body language. I mean, in half the panels she's staring off into space with that slight smile, and not even looking at Tai when she talks half the time. 'Disconnected' i probably the best term I have for it.
--- End quote ---
Exactly. Flippant and "Disconnected" describes it perfectly. I see no bundle of nerves. She seems distracted to the point of indifference. Definitely not showing much interest in Tai as you would expect after she out of leftfield kissed Tai.

I wouldn't call her distractedness the result of "indifference;" to the contrary, I think she's just so happy to be being pursued that she's letting her mouth run away with her. Not because she doesn't care, or doesn't think she needs to, but because she's happy and not trying to be overly concerned about every statement she makes for once. And honestly, with Dora, when she stops particularly paying attention to NOT saying stupid things, it makes sense that that would result in foot-in-mouth scenarios left and right.
CleoKat:
First time poster (who would have posted on Friday but forgot to de-spam pony-whatsit) and occasional lurker here :-)
What I think we're going to see next week is Dora struggling to get a second date from a disillusioned Tai and thus the persuee will become the persuer. I'm still not feeling Tai and Dora as a couple, but I'd love to see Dora deciding whether she genuinely wants to date Tai and pull her socks up accordingly (nicer ones than she's wearing, dear lord Dora, just be yourself).
I'm seriously hoping the tables will be turned on Dora, even if she only comes to the conclusion that she and Tai should be friends (and also because I liked Jim and want to see more of him and Sam via Dora-dating).
SJCrew:
Anxiety and nervousness just aren't reflective of Dora's personality. She's anxious about things like meeting the parents, as many normal people would be, but when it comes to something she wants or expects...nope. Proactive all the way.
Looking back on it, she was a good match for Marten. She encourages him to be more forthcoming, something I couldn't see with any of the other QC ladies.
EDIT: Those fucking socks. I had to go back and check after someone made a comment about it, but goodness, they really are horrible. She needs to excuse herself for a midday change.

How I always figured it to be. Insecurity is reflective of Dora's personality. Made clear with Faye. But she had no problem making it known that to Marten her worries about Faye. (Granted, even then she let it go to hell but). Dora is proactive from a comic perspective about what she wants. And she makes it clear what she wants and isn't ready for. (Letting Jim down easy was a good step of growth for her).
I just don't know how one can excuse and gloss over Dora's thoughtlessness, repeated thoughtlessness I might add, and staring off into lala land and not really paying attention to Tai. That isn't how nervousness manifests. Now when you add up ALL the errors Dora has had since the kiss. Doesn't jive with me. I don't recall Dora EVER blubbering this much or being spacey when she just started off with Marten. Again back to the argument that, comparing the beginnings, Marten was something Dora always wanted while Tai is just something random she's following, subconsciously maybe, so far, because of the joy of being chased.
