Find a helpful friend, neighbor, or two-foot-tall-stuffed-emperor-penguin to stand in for Tai. Be sure to get your elbow on their shoulder. It's really not that hard with a prop. Any awkwardness in this is due entirely to the penguin. I tried it with a friend first and it worked much better, but I wasn't totally comfy taking a random pic of her for an internet message board.

Sorry, not even close. ;)
One, your upper arm needs to be STRAIGHT OUT, as in parallel to the ground. Look at panel 3. The difference in height puts the top of Tai's left shoulder (right side of pic) right at Marten's armpit level. That means Marten's upper arm has to go straight out to rest on top of her shoulder. And if you look closely at #3, the inside of Marten's elbow is right at the far edge of her neck. Marten's elbow is completely above Tai's shoulder, and not at all behind her neck. On the other hand, I can only see about half of your forearm in that pic, let alone your elbow. (And while Tai may be skinny, she's still a lot wider than that penguin.)
Two, I'm pretty sure your elbow isn't double-jointed.
And even with that, you're still about 25 degrees short of the rotation of Marten's wrist.

Dayum, you make the space station spin thread look laid-back.
CompSarge:
*comes in to discuss the d'awww-worthiness of today's cartoon*
*sees people arguing about the not-completely-realistic-but-still-admissible arm position of Marten in yesterday's comic*
*backs away very, veeerrry slowly :psyduck:*
Tova:
We're tackling the big issues, I see.

"Contortionism and appendage geometry are important, dammit!"
Yeah... I got nothing.
