It must be currently a warm enough climate in QC time, or at least an indoor pool.

I'm pretty sure they're swimming in the lake.

Well I'd imagine it's probably late summer and the intimation is that Emily's parents are loaded so the lake house is probably in the Berkshires. So I'd say warm enough for a pool party but the lake, if it's anything like the mountain lakes in the Southern Appalachians, stays cold year round and swimming is only for the brave.
