Dead People's Clothes
Zingoleb:
I knew a guy who worked cleaning up crime scenes, especially murders. He would actually take clothes home a lot of times because no one else wanted them.
"See this belt? Dead guy's belt." etc., etc.

I live in a city where the downtown area is huge on vintage and thrift stores. As a result of all these competing thrift stores the prices are super low and the service and organization are great. I go down there all the time, usually for shoes and jackets. My favourite (only) suit came from one of these stores.

Who doesn't want an excuse to walk around peoples houses and take their stuff?
As for hand-me-downs, I used to hate them as a kid as I got most my stuff from my older sisters or my cousins. Now if something is up for grabs I´m all in. Sadly I´m not allowed to wear my corduroy jacket anymore, except for work. I found it in a pile of my dad's working clothes and it was coated in pure nostalgia.
Sadly there´s only two halfway decent stores here. One is a chain of second-hand stores called Humana, but they are kind of pricey. The other one is kind of a social initiaive, I guess, because they also provide part-time jobs for underpriviledged people (as do a lot of these shops).
Then there are some second-hand shops that are imho just plain overpriced.
There is Oxfam too, but their store is tiny and not really good.
Leaves one really great store that´s a train-ride away but always worth the trip! Even if I only leave there with a stack of paperback novels to insulate my cave with.

I walked into a thrift store in Amsterdam once. They didn't have any clothes that I wanted or needed. They did have some very nice jewellery made from flattened empty nespresso cups.

I adore 2nd Hand clothes. You can get some super bargains....
I paid £1.99 for an amazing faux sheepskin coat with a faux fur collar....
