A better translation would be "I'm so embarrassed".  In German people generally use "es ist mir" rather than "ich bin" (because the form "I am" would be taken to mean one is the emotion rather than one feels the emotion).

I think "this is so embarrassing" works better, "this" being the story.

Now because of all this talk of German and embarrassment, I keep thinking about the word "fremdschämen".
