I'm curious, is there any way to effectively add a bow string or something to bows to make them look more natural? Preferably in a way that doesn't negatively effect another portion of the mini.

Fishing line, the highest gauge guitar string (or really, any high gauge metal rod) anything that is thin and can be glued and positioned easily.

Copying multiple links on imgur from a mobile device apparently doesn't work too well. Here is the boat portion of the starter fleet for the Federated States of America.
