This is at a "wtf did he DO???" level about equal to the South Park episode from its first year where there was a cliffhanger about who was Cartman's father, and the "reveal" show was pre-empted by a Terrance and Phillip episode.

What would be really cruel is if Jeph did "Padma's adventures in home care" for a couple days, then returned to Marten and Claire after they get back to Northampton, with no mention of what happened in between.
