So what is the etiquette for this situation? I don't think Emily Post covers it.

The "put everyone at ease" principle would require reading Claire's mind about whether she'd freak out in embarrassment in the morning. Trying to read people's minds is presumptuous.

I'd be tempted to move to the other bed, carefully not waking her. That way I could get my teeth brushed.

She'll probably be more comfortable with a blanket at some point.

Loki:

Meanwhile on a comic note: D'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw

That briefly melted a tiny portion of my frozen. spiteful heart.

I don't know about geese, but don't get me started on swans. Vicious creatures.

One other person we know of.

He's her little brother, would it be possible for him not to know? (And yes, re: comic - d'aww  :) )

You are assuming functional families where all of the members talk to each other at least once in ten years per default.

And: AWWWWWWW.

In this case, though, wouldn't he have to know? Since we've seen him around his sister, we know he's seen her in whatever stage of the transition she's in. It would be hard not to notice your brother all the sudden looking like a lady. I've known people who have hidden the fact that they're gay from their families, but I can imagine it would be a little tougher to hide the fact that you're trans if you see them in person.

What makes the etiquette so hard to figure out is that if Marten changes beds Claire could take it as a rejection or a message that she has cooties.

Imagine the conversation in the morning, too. If Marten is too emphatic that Nothing Happened, any mildly insecure human might hear that as "Of course nothing was going to happen, not with you!". Marten would never say that in his life, would probably never mean it, but that has nothing to do with someone else's insecurities.

I so hope they stay on good terms. Both of them badly need a Justafriend.

I completely agree. If they were comfortable enough to fall asleep in that position, I don't think there's any harm in staying there. Now, it would be weird if they fell asleep in different beds and Marten moved closer after that. But I know that I, personally, would rather everything stay the way it was when I fell asleep than be woken up by someone moving. As long as they both stay respectful, I don't think there's much of an issue.
