Just wanted to chime in here since I've been away for a few days...
On the first point, I have to agree. In other games I played, this was pretty much not allowed and would lead to immediate death.
On the second point, let the record show that anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to host a mafia game is free to go prior to my second game, unless it muddies the waters too much (don't think it does... yet).

Honestly I don't like it either. Make up a story about your character. Copy/pasting just seems so lazy. It's an RPG! Role play!

Day 3 begins. Village, you are not doing so hot. Be careful or you're going to lose the next time day rolls around!
