Method of Madness:
Oh, I wasn't knocking rotary phones, my grandparents had one and I loved using it when I visited them. I just remember that when you called a place, and they'd give the menu, they'd then say "if you're using a rotary phone, stay on the line", which I would do even on a standard phone because that was the quickest way to get to a real person.

Rimwolf:

I got curious on the same point. My newfound knowledge is that the two extra strings are lower than a 6-string's, often F# and B, which are only a whole tone higher than a bass guitar's E and A. So she means bass-slash-guitar.

Method of Madness:
I wonder if there's a true guitar-bass combination, with the six guitar strings, the four bass strings, and maybe a couple strings in between.

Wagimawr:
Haven't seen anything quite like that, but I have recorded an instrument before that had 5 guitar strings (the top five) and three bass strings on one neck; each had their own separate pickup and output.

This is the beast, I believe: http://novaxguitars.com/sales/ch8.html (fixed the link)

mtmerrick:
Ok, now, what would you call something like that?
