Loki:

--- Quote ---My objection is that "don't be that guy" is usually used for relatively minor things, so using it for rape seemed incredibly inappropriate.
--- End quote ---

See, this is exactly why I think this is effective. If you see a poster which says "don't be a rapist", you'd probably shrug it off: "Of course I am not a rapist. How does this poster relate to me?" This would even be the case if you, say, routinely penetrated drunk girls. If anyone so much as hinted you might be associated with the word "rapist", you'd disregard the whole message. If someone says "don't be that guy", you actually think about the message, which has been shown to increase information retainment by up to 30-40%.

Skewbrow:
I would have thought that in this forum particularly the phrase "don't be that guy" refers to the bearhat guy (= a may-be-not-so-fictitious fan of QC expressing his obsession with Hannelore). Unfortunately I couldn't find a link now. If that post (by Est IIRC) has been removed, then relatively new members had no way of knowing.

Of course, I'm totally ignorant about the more common occurrences of that phrase in the anglosaxon world.

Crimzin:
Heyyy Animals as Leaders! I actually saw them play with Thrice during their farewell tour.

+1 music cred for myself   :-D

RedWolf4:
Wouldn't that defeat the very nature of cred, though, to give it to yourself? As I understand, cred is earned by whatever means it is earned in your relevant field.

LordVaughn:
This comic has confirmed my belief that AnthroPCs are like cats, if they were capable of human-level cognition, and instead of putting butts in our faces, they show us goatse.
