The one he traded in for the 8 string. My point was that that 8 string will be with him only until he trades in in for something even more must have.

i haven't gone back to research, but i'm pretty sure the telecaster he bought wasn't vintage. new ones are cheaper and there's all different levels of quality/features within the model that the prices vary with accordingly. if it's an actual American made Fender it can run anywhere from six or seven hundred dollars on the low end on up to over a thousand. the more budget level Mexican made Fenders go for like three hundred on up to about the price of the most bare bones American models. so the eight string while very expensive probably isn't as expensive as people are making it out to be. i'm guessing it was probably somewhere in the two thousand dollar range, but again it's just a guess. at least now going back and trying to figure out more specifically what sort of telecaster he had and traded in will give me something to do on a very slow work day.

Well, Agile sells 8 string guitars for cheap. The Agile Intrepid Pro has a price tag of us$599, while the Interceptor Pro costs $1199 and the Agile Septor Elite goes for $849. Not dirt-cheap, but affordable.

Okay so I wasn't able to figure out much about exactly what sort of tele Marten got, but I did notice that in the comic where he's trying it out http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=54 he mentions "I think I'll get the amp too". So the guitar itself didn't cost his entire $1100 tax return check. workday well spent.
