"Energy drink" is an understatement, and it actually did get banned, then reformulated after the ban to make it no longer an energy drink.
You see, most energy drinks aren't alcoholic. Four Loko was a malt beverage (12% ABV, even, in a 23.5 oz can - so, about as much alcohol as four normal 12 oz beers) that was turned into an energy drink - post-ban production removed the caffeine et. al.

I'm on a run of people correcting me* in great detail when I wasn't wrong to begin with. It was banned in some states, but a federal ban never happened; the FDA issued a strong warning that without major changes it would be banned, and it was changed before that could go into effect.
Geez, next thing I know someone is going to say "Dora is NOT Marten's separated twin sister, we were told so here and here, and her roots are blonde anyway."
*Unless it was a general statement rather than a specific response, which I was not adept enough to discern.

I'll grant that it didn't actually get banned by the FDA, but states banning it technically does count as a ban, and I didn't say it was federally banned, just banned. ;)
