He's a sort of Rabbit (Wikipedia).
Mieville rarely gets a lookin, which seems decidedly implausible, cats will generally get there paws stuck into everything they can.
I presume he's supposed to be an indoors only cat? This seems far more common in the USA than it is in the UK, where most cats wander in and out as fast as they can get the door opened for them (or use their cat flap).

Sure, me too, actually, but combined with her reaction to Emily's weirdness, I can't see it happen. Hope I'm proven wrong, though.
