GeoGuessr

jwhouk:
Slightly inspired by an xkcd strip (namely, this one):

GeoGuessr is a web-based "game" where you try to figure out from Google Street View where in the world you are, and you get a score based on how "close" you are.

Example: 22,958 points (results here).

ChaoSera:
After reading that xkcd strip a few days ago I took a look at geoguessr myself.

It's pretty cool, but so far I haven't been able to score more than 12k points. I'm terrible at this. :)

this thing's actually quite a bit of fun for someone like me who's into travel.

first try got me 7389. i saw a sign for the 'new england highway' & assumed i must be in the north eastern US. turns out that austrailia also has a new england.

it's interesting how you end up looking at little things like the color of the license plates on some turns. i expect you'd get a lot better at this with practice.

BeoPuppy:
13043 points.

But only because the thing dropped me next to the Harlinger vis handel.

Other than that ... I swapped Africa for Australia. Oops.

14858.

pwhodges:
In every round I had two thoughts as to where it was, and one was fairly close but I chose the other.

(Later) It dropped me in a town I know, not so far from here, and I put the marker less than a mile out, for 6,500 points.  Still got only 8,000-odd points for the round...
