It's anodized titanium. I have matching beads for my bridge and tragus piercings, along with tunnels for my second ear piercings that are a very similar color. I want a whole set in this color. I like purple.

And more jewelry to show off... sorry, in place of a new piercing or tattoo, this is what I have for now :P

It's stone, so I guess it's probably kind of heavy, but I don't even notice it. It feels weirder to wear something lightweight, like titanium.

Hell yes. Time for new ink. Fuck yes yes yes. I need some needle time. This one's going to be a big one for me, on a lot of levels. First it is going to be my largest tattoo, it's also significant for me personally as it's going to represent a formal oath and bond over something extremely personal, and finally it's going to be my first regularly visible tattoo once we get back to weather that doesn't utterly suck as it's going to be on my left calf.

On to the colors! I hate color in my ink for the most part. I don't think it looks good on me, and as a professional sexy motherfucker, I can't do anything to detract from my image. Accordingly, blacks, greys and reds.

I took a fair amount of inspiration for this piece from this tattoo piece, and actually contacted the artist about getting her to do a commission for me because her knot work is jaw dropping and lovely. Especially her representations of Skoll and Hati (the wolves forever chasing the sun and moon). Sadly the artist is not taking tattoo commissions at this time, but has given me full permission to use this piece in any way I see fit:

So I might just have my artist use those glorious, beautiful wolves or I might go ahead and use that whole circle, because it's a really pretty cycle as well as a significant part of the lore.

The design of the tattoo is relatively simple, this style of sword running tip down towards the deck,

with this symbol of Freya at the pommel...

...and Mjolnir as part of the guard. Skoll and Hati if I used them as such, or the wolves will be around the center of the blade, and the rest of the ink is inscriptions in runes, which I still need to sit down with a Gothi or other learned individual to get a proper translation on.

I might go ahead and do a knot work band at the bottom of the tattoo but I'm not sold on it.

So Dave the initial guy I was working with decided he couldn't do it, and brought in Laura, who is everything I want in a tattoo artist, namely an actual artist who loves custom work and views tattooing as collaboration. Doesn't hurt she's cute and smart as well as awesome. (Seriously her work, soon to be found on my leg is killer), if she was single I'd probably be in love as well as getting a tattoo XD.

So I'm going in for this piece saturday, should take about three or four hours.

(Yes, people, I'm aware that on the handy chart the one that looks closest to ᚽ is the short-twig Hagall, but it's written in as a dotted Isa, which wasn't a Younger Futhark rune in its own right. It's more like adding an accent to a letter, but in this case turning it from 'i' to 'e'.)

Ár-fixed update:

Since I won't be having none of them there anachronisms! Around that period of development the regular "a" sound had migrated pretty solidly to the Ár rune. Both Ár and Óss are A-letters, of course, but it's not the saaaaame! :-D

Examples of that trend:
Jelling Stones
Turinge Runestone
Skern Runestone
Læborg Runestone

*kiss* you might be the only one on this forum aware of that.

I don't believe it! How could so many people on a forum be illiterate!  :psyduck:

Five hours under the gun with some of the most pain I have ever endured outside of breaking both tibias. Well worth every moment, because this new tattoo is incredible.

I also finally understood the test of the Gorm Jabar in Dune while I was in some of the moments of highest agony. When the Bene Gesseret test to see if someone is human, they inflict incredible pain upon the potential human, with the threat of death should they move. The test is not pain endurance itself, but rather reason, discipline and will. An animal, homo sapiens sapiens or not, will flinch and seek to remove themselves from the source of the pain, netting themselves a swift death. A human being would know that moving would mean instant death, and so endure the pain to avoid being killed, overriding their animal instincts with logic and reason.

After my ink I walked in to Papa Johns to get a pizza and I asked if they had any Pizzas that couldn't have been delivered. The manager pulls two off the shelf and says "I'm about to close so they're all yours man". So up a new calf piece AND two large pizzas. Not a bad saturday eh?

Random weird coincidence of the day? My tattooist Laura was not only my age, BUT she was LITERALLY born the day after me. February 28th and March 1st. The fuck are the odds of THAT

She's the same age as well as adjacent birthday.  Until he knew her age there was an arbitrary number of years she could have been born in, which is what my estimate accounted for.

Yes - but the amount less (which I set at 1/20th) depends on what your starting point is to decide what age she could possibly be.  There's no definitive answer unless you define the parameters more fully.

Alternatively, you can say that once you know when she was born, the chance that she was born on that day is 1 - because she was!

I want this tattooed on me somewhere. During my deepest depression, Glassjaw were one of the big reasons that I didn't kill myself. It's also reasonably nondescript so I don't see why I'd regret it majorly later. I'm thinking of getting it in the crook of my elbow or thereabouts. It's kind of hard to describe.

The STAY CALM? It's something that Shannon Larratt, the founder of BMEzine, had on the inside of his fingers. BME was a huge part of my education in body mods. Shannon died a couple of months ago, so it's partly a memorial to him. It also just as to do with my anxiety and depression. Keeping calm is important for me to be able to handle what's going on around me.

I have a design floating in my head based on Nightmare Before Christmas. A silhouette of Jack Skellington with the lyrics, "For a moment, why, I even touched the sky" on either side of him. It's more about the lyric than the film. I mainly want that lyric to remind me even if I mess up, at least I made a go of it. It's taken me a long time to get past the idea that if I can't get something perfect first time, I shouldn't even try.

I'm not sure if I'm prepared to deal with having something so recognisable on me though. My Fallout tattoo design is something that can sort of stand alone separate from the game and should only be recognised by people who have played the game. So in theory just people who like Fallout can address me about it. I don't want to deal with dicks bitching at me for being a Tim Burton fangirl, especially when I'm not. I guess one way to deal with that depends on the placement and its visibility which I'm struggling to decide on. It'll also be a quick way of finding out people I don't want to associate with any further which would save me a lot of time. I think I've talked myself a lot more into this idea than I was feeling before I wrote this paragraph.

Cool. Why that location on your body, though?

I want it to be somewhere that I can easily see it. It needs to be easily covered by work clothing. And I don't want it on my stomach or chest. And with basically just my thighs left as an option, it seems like a good place to put them.

Apparently, if you are planning to get a lot more tattoos in the future, it is tough to incorporate text tattoos into new ones down the line. So do consider that when you're choosing placement.

Welu, what about just the lyrics, and maybe something like the moon, instead of anything very obviously from the movie?

I would like a picture along with the text. The moon is a great idea, Neko. I may end up going with that, thanks a lot. That opens up placement options a lot too. :-)

You could do something like this - since the big curly hill was always in front of the moon.

Subtle, but still relevant.

You are full of awesome ideas. That looks like it could turn out really well. I'm really excited for this design now. Many thanks!

Since I'm not going to be going to university next year I guess that means I'll need to find a new artist, either in Sydney or Melbourne, and get to work on my new project.

I've been thinking about it and planning it for years so this year I want to start on my dead tree. The roots will start on my thighs and the trunk will come up over my stomach. The branches will start at around my sternum and stretch up over my shoulders and around onto my ribs. I think it's best to go with all black and grey because I think brown will end up fading oddly and I think it'll look better.

I need to start losing some more weight.

This fat ass is gonna get a cutie mark type tattoo one of these days. Just need to decide exactly what I want. I can't get a heart because my mom has one on her butt. Maybe a Hello Kitty bow? Hmm.

You can't give yourself a cutie mark, you have to wait until it comes on its own!

Oh wait, never mind, that's just with ponies.
