Guitar's back! Garrison AG-200. Gorgeous thing, and I'm so happy I bought one when I could, before Gibson bought them out and dissolved the company.



Thought I'd get an obligatory gear shot in too. Took it whilst packing up after band this morning hence the lack of power cables for me pedals (they're hiding in the box). JamMan Solo XT for looping and Behringer X V-Amp for a multitude of effects. Electric's just a cheap £100 Stagg. Nothing amazing but it gets me by when I need to go full electric.

Sup guys. I sold my Parker Nitefly V1 (the 96, strat style one) not the one I usually post pics of me playing. Got $500 for it at GC. Which is what I traded the Acoustic Black Widow we paid $500 for. Paid some bills. Meh. I just never needed two parkers. I'm mostly playing the yamaha acoustic electric now anyway. I feel like I'm set for gear for life. GAS'd out.

Serious GAS for one of the following:
1) Epiphone SG G400 (worn cherry, I think)
2) Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top Pro (a blue one)
3) Squier Telecaster Deluxe (alpine white, like Chris Sheflett's)

Only thing in common is 2 humbuckers for when I need (ok, want  something other than the single coils on my Telecaster.

It's a 1985 Ibanez DS10 Distortion charger, made in Japan and it is my new favourite overdrive.

as a highlight of how versatile this thing is, here's something I put together with just that and a tremolo pedal for a couple of parts.

I know I'm insanely late to the party on these, but I just got some most excellent Joyo pedals.


Does what it says on the tin. It's a chorus and it was cheap. I was sick of using my delay as one, so this replaces it. Sounds excellent doing what it does.


This digital delay is fucking great. One second of delay on the pot, but if you tap tempo it, it'll give you anywhere up to six. Great for combining with my analog delay for trippy as fuck sound scapes. Also has a reverse delay setting, which I've always wanted for no good reason. Best feature is that it has two presets which you can switch between using the left button on its own. Seamless, noiseless transitions from space echo style delay to reverse/digital/however you set it. No controls for the oscillation, but that's what I have an analog delay for anyway so screw that. Solid piece of kit.

One thing I wouldn't have minded is it being stereo out, but you know, that's kind of asking a bit much for such a cheap and functional pedal.

Not only is it pretty and huge, but it's fucking versatile. I still haven't figured it out completely, but it'll do some far-out stuff when combined with a delay and a stereo amp setup.

Wow. GAS for Hofner Archtop New President I saw in Cali last month.
But since we can't get dick for bookings these days, I guess I'll soldier on with the yamaha.

Man, my dad has a hofner senator (1959) and those things are fucking beauties. I honestly can't think of many guitars I love more than that particular thing.
I played one of the new presidentsand was slightly disappointed by it, but maybe it just hadn't quite 'settled' yet if you know what I mean. It played very well, but it somehow didn't feel quite as lively. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that it was single cut as well. Full bodied acoustics always seem to have a slightly fuller sound to me.


Either way it played beautifully and you could do much worse. Have you considered the godin 5th avenue as a second option?

Those are nice too (Godins) I had not looked at them. Definitely better than a lot of other options available.

Is this really some weirdo thing? I thought the norm was to upgrade your amp first, then upgrade your guitar. Especially when these are PRS imports, not cheapo imports.

I have a hand built amp which I play an old tanglewood strat copy through. My most expensive guitar is a partscaster I paid 250 for. Jeph don't know what poverty is :p

I can get a good sound out of any old bad guitar with a decent amp. Opposite I wouldn't want to bet on it.

i'm not sure how the fanned frets play into the ergonomics beyond optimizing string tension, but the real revelation for me is strandberg's funky compound neck profile

So I have resolved that if I keep my credit card at zero by the time guitar shops reopen, I am going out there and buying one of my dream guitars.

Shop in town has a sweet looking Midnight Strat, but I am going to shop around a bit - I want to try some Gretsches, maybe some SGs, even a goddamn Rickenbacker is an option.

Hey cybersmurf! Took me this long to actually get around to replying.

I looked this up, and basically it seems that that is pretty much exactly the price you can expect to pay for one of those. Not a ripoff, not a great price, just about right. That is a great price for anything by Epiphone, principally speaking, but it must be their mega-budget model because Epiphone can be surprisingly pricey for a 'budget' version of Gibson. My research suggests they're surprisingly good quality for the price.

It will be fine as a beginner guitar and probably not for much else - one thing I would warn of is that Gibson/Epi guitars are often verrrry heavy and cheaper does not necessarily mean lighter in my experience, so be watchful of that if you're somebody lacking in upper body strength or spinal strength. That said it seems this one is a consciously lightweight design by them.

As a guitar, it's basically a bite on the typical style of a Danelectro type guitar, so it looks like it won't be built for handling a heavy metal sound, but would be fine cruising through punk, rock 'n' roll, jazz (although not necessarily lead), country, as long as you aren't looking to do them too seriously. If it sounds like this guitar won't suit your needs, by all means reply here or drop me a PM for advice and we can chat in more detail about what you might want from a guitar.

I was on the hunt for a Dream Guitar for when shops started re-opening, to spend some money my grandmother's estate left to me. I had considered a few options, but saw this Midnight Strat in a window and fell in love with it instantly.

David Gilmour played one. And influences don't get bigger than that for me.

I've never been a huge fan of Strats, because they're such jack-of-all guitars - but they are just that, though. And the pickups are made by Seymour Duncan, and the wood is amazing, it's light, it's beautiful and such good quality. So easy to play. Sounds absolutely incredible, and the floating bridge is surprisingly kind to the tuning.

I looked around a bit myself, and some YouTube channel said "for that prize, you shouldn't expect anything good strings wise, so re-string them out of the box, but otherwise they sound good." I don't want anything beyond a beginner's guitar, since I don't even know whether I'd keep it up for longer than a few weeks. By now, life has tightened my budget so I'll have to look whether I'll actually do it.

Sold my '78 Fender Mustang to GC for $700. Oh well, I bought it for $200 in 1992 or so. I had to pare down the herd. Shipping that sh*t to Italy was €€€. It hurt more to sell the Tiny Terror and the Avatar cabinet. Now I need an amp and a bass amp and the selection and prices are awful in the EU. Sorta want one (two) of those Vox MV-50s, but with two 1x12 cabs. I could run the parker into those and split the fishmans and dimarzios up. But I'll probably get some cheap shit that sounds like ass, and make it work. I'd probably be better off getting a PA and using it for Maria's upright bass and my guitar, vocals. Sigh. Gave away my mixer and sold 2 JBL Eon 615's. So mad. Buy High, Sell Low. Profit. Or something.
