The X-Universe

ankhtahr:
I've already seen multiple people here posting about games from the X series.

I've been a great fan since when I've got the X2 Collectors Edition. To be honest, sometimes I still feel like X2 is my favourite game from the series.

The problem with me and these games is that I never found enough time to really play these games. For me it's mostly flying around, buying ships and stations, and then flying into an Argon Mammoth or something.

Because of that way of playing I often fly M5s. I still kinda long after X2's Paranid Pegasus which could reach 1009m/s.

Until yesterday I never even played X3:TC or AP. I tried AP yesterday, and it takes some time getting used to it, but I guess I can live with it, now that I've found the classic mode for input. (I don't really care about mouse input, I play with my Saitek X52, but it annoyed me with the sidebar always on and such. And I want a way to turn off all these frickin hints.)

And from today on you can preorder X Rebirth.
I'm a little sceptical about that game. It would force me to really play this game… I mean I can't really fly from sector to sector buying new ships… (In case you didn't know, you can't change your ship in X Rebirth. In that way it resembles X:BtF) But the leaving your ship and entering stations is something I always wanted. And we get a cockpit again!

So what are your thought about these games?

ev4n:
Wait, you can't change ships in Rebirth?  Can you still own/control a fleet, though?

I enjoyed TC, but never came close to "finishing" it.  It's a fun but complicated space sandbox imo.  But yeah, one I didn't really have the time to plumb the depths of.

ankhtahr:
Yep, in Rebirth you can't change ships. You have to use the "Albion Skunk" (during development it was called "Pride of Albion", a better name imho…), a M6. You will be able to upgrade it of course, you can remote control drones to perform various tasks, and I'm pretty sure you can still organise a large fleet. Otherwise the whole trading character of the game would be lost, and I don't think they're going that way.

I've finally started playing TC in a story mode (usually I just start a custum game, to disable the story). Apart from getting killed three times in a row at the end of a half hour mission (:x) it's fun. When I continue playing I'll focus more on trading and earning a little money before starting that mission again. That pirate will be shocked when I arrive with a nice, upgraded M3 :-D.

ev4n:
The problem with trading is once you start, imo, you never really go back to the story line.

de_la_Nae:
wait wait wait what are we talking about?

Because i'm totally listening, I've been jonesing for a space sandbox.
