I am pretty sure there is a Python package which can convert videos into ASCII art.

There's also an output filter on mplayer (the linux version, at least) that converts videos to ascii art, so you can watch a video on the command line console.

But where's the fun in that. I always imagined someone not realizing the ASCII images were programmatically generated sitting there in an editor trying to decide if an M or N would look better in a particular cell.
